My predictions for the Gateway A9LH update

Since these got wiped from that one topic along with about a hundred other posts, I figured I'd repost them here, in my personal blog for all to read if they please. (:

I don't own a gateway card, and I never plan to, I just like to think about this stuff for the fun of it.

Aside from my general distrust of their brand and software, especially after the whole Brickway debacle, I have no personal gripes with anyone who uses their card, and I'm actually pretty excited that more people in the community will get to reap the benefits of Arm9LoaderHax in some form or another! So please, try to keep any comments below civil! I'd appreciate that greatly.

With that said, this is my best guess for how Gateway will be doing Arm9LoaderHax.
I'd like to predict the following:
  1. Gateway will be using their own implementation of Arm9LoaderHax and it will be very locked down to prevent people from using their tools for installing A9LH to install other open source implementations (For example, Aurora Wright's No Screen Init fork or the variant suggested by Plailect's guide.)
  2. Gateway's Implementation of A9LH will not be compatible with software for the existing open source implementations or will require the Gateway Red Card inserted to run. [They will probably do this to prevent people from ditching and selling their Gateway Card for an open source CFW after they install their A9LH entrypoint.]
  3. Gateway will probably offer a payload for the existing public implementation, or possibly a payload that switches you to their implementation, as the less work their end users have to do the better. In the latter case, they likely won't be providing a way to switch back.
  4. They likely haven't found any actual new exploits, and they will probably have only done minimal simplifying to the install process for Arm9LoaderHax. It is possible they've automated the process slightly, but nothing major.
  5. It won't work on firmware 11.0.0-33, weather you have homebrew launcher access or not.
and, like I said in that topic before the clean-up, I now simply wait for their program to come out and see precisely how it is their actions match up with my predictions, if at all.

Seems like everytime I talk about gateway in some way (even if I'm not even really bashing them directly or anything) I get a lot of shitty comments, so again, I ask:
Please, try to keep any comments below civil! I'd appreciate that greatly.

IMO, it will just be a clone of other open-source tools, with a nice dragon theme and some DRM.
As for the free tool, I assume, it will be like a trial like "You want to run GBA roms you buy Gateway" or it will leave some pretty nasty GW traces on the NAND.
And finally, I bet, that the bricking code will be the biggest, as for the recent news that GW is MD5 hashing every Gateway Beta and reccomends actively Beta Testers hardmods(wtf).
So for me i'l just stick with a9lh+cfw

I feel like Gateway wouldn't pull something as trite as this. They've allowed their users to use CFW alongside their own product forever, and locking people down to just them would only hurt their business rather than help it.
That aside, I don't know what the team is gonna do about their A9LH process, but the red card will definitely be needed to boot the 3DS (into Gateway mode on boot, not in general). If it weren't, it would kind of defeat Gateway's business as a whole since people could just use their shit without the card, save for multirom.

So from the sound of things, 1, 2, 4, and 5 were all right.

And 3 (which is the only one that would've made this whole thing convenient) is the one I got wrong, instead they've forced the segregation of Gateway A9LH users and CFW A9LH users.

Welp. I told you so. :P

2 and 5 aren't really correct per se, as you can still boot your system without the GW Card, and you can use updated sysNAND with their implementation. Crazy how accurate this was, though.

@CreAtor135 Eh I disagree, 2 and 5 were pretty much spot on as far as I can tell.

5 was referring to the downgrading and the install process for A9LH. I mostly included that because some doofuses were saying "Gateway will make time machine work on 11!!! You'll see!!!" and I simply knew better. ^.^

2 was true because you apparently couldn't boot classic mode properly without the red card, it'd just crash, and since you need the red-card for EmuNAND mode, you couldn't do anything with your 3DS without a Gateway Red Card inserted. (Classic may still crash even now actually, I honestly don't know)

I don't count hacky stage 2 payloads made by others either, this was strictly for GW's release/beta itself.
