My First Day of 8th Grade

So today it was my first day of 8th grade, I was eager to go so I could see my friends. But I was nervous too, I was nervous about it, even though we were the upperclassmen. So day started bad.:(

First I woke up too early, I usually get up at 11AM, but for school I had to get up at 6:30, so I got ready and headed off down the street to where the bus picks up the students. I went down to find out they switched the routes, 1st run is 2nd run, and 2nd run is 1st run. So I was late. I missed the bus and was mad. So I got a ride over to the school from my parents. Once I get there I see SOME of my friends. I wanted to see my other ones, but they(friends I saw) don't like my other friends(they don't either -_-) so I didn't see any of them until after first period, because one of them was next to my locker. And then I saw them at lunch, and after school. I even saw my cousin in the 7th grade. But I didn't get to talk too much to anyone. I'm the quietest one in class. I hardly speak, either hand gestures(holding up fingers for a number, or nodding or shaking my head) or just never got noticed. The usual... I didn't get to see my other friends much, since I only get to talk to her after school or on the bus, or before while waiting for the bus. But at the end I saw some of my friends that were in high school that went on the bus. Overall I had a good time. But still, I could have done better, I kind feel quiet inside. I have nothing to say at school, I am silenced. I would like to stop being so quiet... But I can't, it's hard for me. :\ Except when I'm with my friends, I'm kinda loud though, but anywhere else, I'm muted.

Was your day any better? I hope so, mine sucked. Sort of, in the end it got better. I feel better now letting off some steam. :)

I am soooooooo glad my son is OUT of 8th grade and becoming a high school student this year (sort of).

I had a lousy experience with jr high waaaaaaaay back in the stone age :)
And it appeared my son wasn't having much of a different experience of it.

I had failed 7th, so I didn't feel in a position to be so demanding of him.

This year though will be a different sort of environment. He'll be back to being the "young crowd" among a grouping or older teens. That much further from grade school, and no longer the "older" batch as an 8th grader among 7th and 8th grade students.

I'm hoping I can be helpful to him. My time in high school wasn't very "mainstream" (think of the group that's pro military, punk when punk was new, and played serious poker in the cafeteria :)). The jocks left us alone, because jocks have muscle but army nuts have rifles hehe).

I'm hoping to cure him of his addiction to WoW and his emo look.
I'm hoping his schoolmates cure him of the emo thing actually.

ahhh you confusing america school system.

Where i live there is no 8th grade. In high school there is 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th year. I started college yesturday. Pretty cool place, it is fun when you get lost :P. The teachers can come in late and often let you out early, very relaxed place. Taking a course in Digital Media means you are mostly always on a computer using ACID or photoshop (and more programs but i haven't been in every subject yet)

No, in North America you start in Kindergarten, then go to Grade 1. Grade 1-6 is elementary, 7-9 is Middle School, and 10-12 is high school. Its all in a row like that.

Is the UK like, 1-5 is something, than another 1-5 is another thing? So there is overlay of say, grade 1? There could be a 6 year old in grade 1, and a 16 year old in another grade one?

Where i live (scotland) it is Primary school for 7 years, then High school for 6 years. Then your are adult. Time to get your ass to uni, college or a job :P

I don't start school until next week Tuesday. Yay Public Schools! anyways... I requested to have PE and a class called Health switched and during the process the lady gave me a study hall at the end of the day for the first semester and a study hall at the beginning of the day for the second semester. I was tempted to
W.O.L (Woot out loud) That is pretty much as far as I got... And I look smexy with my braces off now :D
DAMN, school starts in about a week, and I have so much work to do, hate summer assignments...

EDIT: And not all North Americans have middle school, 1-7 Primary/Elementary, 8-12 Secondary over here.

PS. Anyone in IB?
I was in grade ten. Full IB. Dropped that shit next year. Everyone was so dumb around me, but I got better grades

My first day was miserable, all the teachers said the exact same thing over and over again, all of my classes (except for the "honors" one I have) are full of stupid kids that I don't know, especially English in which today the teacher was going over verbs. We did that 5 years ago. Today was a little better, but I'm not looking forward to tomorrow.

About the grades thing, where I'm at it's K-5 (that's Kindergarten and 1-5) for elementary then 6-8 for middle then 9-12 for high school. I'm right at the end of middle school.

Not necessarily. Where I am, 1-5 is elementary, 6-8 is middle, and 9-12 is high school

Around where I live, which is Maple Ridge, that's how the system works.

We have no middle school, and our elementary school ends at grade 7. By now, I should've JUST started High school, but since the system works that way, It's my third year in High school.

My university classes started last week.

I am a transfer student from a technical college and this is my 2nd semester in the university system. It is soo lame. 16 weeks of classes.... only an hour each class. what the hell???

I liked tech school. 2 hours only 11 weeks... made it go by quicker that way.

I like the advanced learning schools where you have class 2 times a week for only 8 weeks. I would love one of those schools, but I havent found any universities like that, that have regional accredidations.

I had a worse first day, if I may add.
I started High School. And it wasn't the one I'm zoned to. It's one with an Engineering Magnet. (Edgewater, anyone?) I didn't have anyone to talk to, and I almost got lost. Lockers, but we're gettin' them later this week. I'm stuck with Latin, an Orchestra class which is too easy for me, and Geometry (Whee!)

So yeah. I hope it makes you feel better that there are people that have it just as worse, or even more worse than that around you. But remember that you'll make a whole lot of new friends. I'm in week 2, and I've already made 2 10th grade friends (I'm in 9th, btw) 2 9th grade, and I'm starting to talk to the kids in class with the groups and whatnot. So lighten up there, man, cause it's gonna get smooth soon. =]

My day went pretty well. Woke up as usual (about 6:50am. I miss sleeping late..) ate breakfast and got on the bus though it was late cause of Hurrican Key. D: We get to school and we had to site in the cafeteria for like an hour cause we were in a hurricane warning. Talked to my friends who were there then finally started school. The day went by normal, like any other day except more rain and wind then usual. I ran today in Personal Fitness (its a mandatory class as a Junior in High School though we ran in the Gym where people who had Gym class were.) Then the rain got worse, last block came and went. Came home, it was stillraining and windy like hell.

So it was a good and bad thing. At least it shaved a few hours off of school. :D

I wasn't able to go to the second day since I got sick. Of all the days. :( But yeah, it the 3rd day, it was good, except for a "little" rain. Okay, maybe a lot. :P But I had a good time. It's great when you are taller than your friend who is going to be 15 in Sept. while you are only 13. :ha:

But it was good! :D And Sept. 1 is Labor Day(NO SCHOOL!!!) so it's all good.

And here in this city it's kinda :\

Pre-K(which I never went to, my mom said when I was little I hated my Pre-K teacher so she took me out... or that's what I think :\)

So again, it's Pre-K and Kindergarten.
Then Elementary(1-6) sort of, the school for 6th grade is with the 5th graders too, and used to be with the 4th graders too, but the town got a new school. But in 6th grade it was like Jr. High and above, we had class periods, but no lockers(sadly enough, they got lockers the year I left to 7th grade :( My cousin brought a Yearbook with a picture of the school, and they had nice tall lockers, bastards we got shrimpy shit 3 stacked lockers. :( And so does the High School, I think)

Then it's 7-8, which is the Jr. High school I'm in now. Not so bad, but the cafeteria slop is still the same.
And then it's 9-12. And then College, which of course is not needed, but a lot of people try to go. No college really close to the town though. :\

Most U.S. schools are set up such that elementary is 1-5, middle is 6-8, and high school is 9-12.
Most Japanese schools are set up so elementary is 1-6, middle is 7-9, and high school is 10-12. In the U.S. you can quit school at 18 but in Japan you can quit after graduating middle.

Anyway, meh, I barely remember middle school except there being a lot of hormonal pre-teens whinging all the damn time (myself very much included).
