Before anyone gets up in arms about anything (since this is a political discussion) I ask that everyone has a relatively open mind. (course actual good sources and facts are good as well if you have a counter).
Let's discuss the growing divide within the states, and how it's destroying the states.
What do I mean by destroying the states?
I mean the evolution of tribalism between parties, and the rapidly expanding sphere of extreme views. In this current age left and right are seen as either allies or foe. Us vs them. Which is a horrible way of thinking about politics when this democracy's whole main piece is varying and differing opinions, and even gasp coming together and making a agreement. And I don't mean agreement of "my way or the highway" I mean both sides working together to figure out something that works for both sides. But now days it is the earlier idea, my way or the highway. Which now has made it so people think about parties as not a collection of people, but instead, a thing, a evil, or good. Or something to be against.
Which leads into another issue. Not all people who are on a side support the same things.
For example someone on the right may not support trump. Or may have different view or even have a more left leaning view on a subject than their peers. Or in my case, I support a lot of left ideas, but I do not support the execution of them. For example, we all know mass shootings are a problem in the states. Some people in the left had proposed banning all guns. Which I fully disagree with. However I do believe there needs to be tighter checks and balances in regards to obtaining a firearm, but also maintaining one. For example if you have firearm and that gets stolen for a crime I think it should be required that it is put in a gun safe.
Another issue is the fact we do a whole lot of talking and not a lot of doing anything. And that goes for any pundent who decided to blame video games for violence instead of reviewing the system we have and see if it checks up.
Leading up into that there is a flaw both sides are not respecting the Constitution.
The thing about a democracy is everyone needs to agree to the rules of the system. Which means when a party looses, they lost. Plain as that, but the party victor also has to respect the other side when they loose. And NEITHER VICTOR SHOULD TILT THE ODDS IN THEIR FAVOR. The parties should RESPECT each other. Which in the current day we don't.
And if anything, the constitution is the rule book. I'm not going to say the constitution is a perfect thing, because it isn't. But that's our job, as people who live in a democracy to fix and add on to it.
Which guess what? BOTH SIDES ARE IGNORING
some on the Left want censorship, some folk on the right want Trump to rule or have undocumented power, to rule like a king. (I'm using those as examples since those two are the most current issues).
Both of these violate the Constitution's amendments.
Getting into immigration... (this is likely going to be the more controversial bit but hopefully not by much) to make myself clear, I do not support open boarders it's a absolutely retarded idea. But I do think that a specific stereotype needs to be dropped.
The United States is in a really interesting position. We are the only country that does not have a defined ethnicity, location, or religion. In other countries if you ever traveled would be immediately noticed as foreigner and would be called as your native country, regardless if you live in that new country. In the States, we all just say people are American, because we are a ethnic blend. I don't think any country in the entire world would say Japanese Chinese. But in the States we say Japanese American, Native American. Why? Because we don't have that distinction, Americans are people who participate in this democracy if I had to give a definition.
So I bring this up because there is this fear or stigma around Mexicans, especially around the right wing. And even more with trump claiming the states are being invaded. And some people will try to prove this "invasion" through the decline of whites as the majority. Which is due to several factors other than "the invasion" (Mixing of races, the fertility issue, mothers bearing less children and etc. Or the fact we are many ethnic groups).
And this stigma is causing people to be near sighted and not looking at the full issue. Because there is a whole lot more than "PEOPLE ARE INVADING OUR WALLS" Or people just crossing the border, there is a thing called seeking asylum which is a whole lot different than coming illegally.
If your in that crowd that thinks "fucking illegals they did xx" It's up to you if your in that crowd to figure it out and or converse with someone else and CREATE YOUR OWN VIEW. And ask if your being one sided. This goes both ways however, the right is correct in the sense that people shouldn't cross illegally (and occasionally yes that happens) However you also have to ask the cause of it before action. Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you've fed him for a lifetime. I think that saying applies here. You have to fix the source, not the result. Which people seeking Asylum or people illegal immigrants crossing is a result from a issue outside the states, and not a issue on the inside. If you think it is inside, I want someone to name that law and have a source backing it up.
Which leads into the next thing, people want to only hear what they want to hear. Which again, is a danger to this democracy, since once again it feeds into the whole extreme loop and dehumanizing of people.
Also in the Constitution there is a difference between people and citizen. I'm only pointing this out as there may be some very interesting implications from that.
Oh and not to forget to mention democracy's are at their worst when no one participates or respects the other. And they are at their best when everyone is participating.
Which then leads to parties dumb things down until it's absolutely stupid and killing any conversation since it has no good meaning anymore.
I've realized democracy isn't something normal to human nature, as we tend to like clear structure. Democracy is a acquired habit as I heard.
