Good bye... maybe

Just thought I'd say my mother might be cutting off the internet connection out of spite just because I haven't got a job yet... wattabitch! So if I'm not online any more, you'll know why.

So if I'm not online any more, you'll know why" ~ because you don't have a job?

Yeah she said she's gonna phone Virgin and cancel the internet connection. Why? Because I don't have a job and she's "sick of seeing me on my lazy ass"... pfft fuck off.

Oh and she wants £15 a week rent off me! I'm only 17 and I'm doing a full-time course at college!

I understand I need to get a job but I just haven't gotten round to it yet... I think I'll go out job hunting tomorrow.

That doesn't sound like "Spite" so much as "a good reason for you to find a job." lol
Its not really that hard, and it'll be good to get out a bit :)

I'm only saying this as one of the working class. Hell, Wife® and myself BOTH have jobs, and we can't afford our own internet. We "borrow" from the library down the street :)

It gets the job done.

WOW harsh! how old r u?

edit: nvm. its good to get a job and get out there BUT ur in full time college. doesn't she give a damn about ur studies?

He just mentioned he was 17.

Anyways I think you should go an look for a job...even if its a stockboy or cashier. Do it.

I've been working since I was 15...I'm 23 now...and its still pains me to pay my student loans. Once this internship is done, I'm going fulltime.

Turned 17 a couple months ago... and it's not like my mum can't afford the internet connection anyway... she expects me to pay for it since "I use it more than anyone else in the house".

15 quid, you lucky sod. I was paying my old 'uns 35 a week when I was 17! Still sucks though. I'm on the dole at the mo, even finding crappy shelf stacking jobs is a task.

Go to the library, when I was without internet I used my local one and got an hour a day.

Also take a look at this website:
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/EducationAndLe...dents/index.htm

When I was 17 I got help with living expenses, you should be able to too. Failing that go to an agency, you could do a few hours here and there and get a fair bit of money but as long as you don't let them think you're a sucker. Also £15 a week ain't that much for living there, in fact I'd say that's fucking good! Wish that's all I had to pay. You might not know this but you probably cost her more than that with electric, gas, water, food etc.

To be honest your mum sounds like she's probably right. And £15 a week rent is dirt cheap! I know some people that are paying like £50 a week just to live with their parents!

And it's always good to get a job and pay your own way, instead of living off your parents. Plenty of evening and weekend work out there to get some lovely cash from!

He just mentioned he was 17.

noticed i posted just after he did, AND i went back to edit it BEFORE u posted :)

but yeah, life's tough man. i'm goin to university, and i'm givin my parents $300 CAD per month for everything (food/rent and stuffs). so u shouldn't complain (and i'm only one year older than u). though i choose to give it to them (to help em out u no?)

erm you should (if i remember rightly) have at least a month because i'm sure virgin has a termination period
if your connection comes as part of an overall package i'm not sure she'll be saving herself anything if not that would be just spite if it isn't saving money
don't people who study further education get some sort of study grant (up to £30 a week from the goverment)
your mum doesn't really sound that supportive to me i'd have a really long chat about why the money is more important than your education if i were you.
good luck :grog:

Well I am getting £30 EMA from college... and I have like a grand in the bank but still she insist I must get a job and I completely agree with that but god damn she whines and moans at me every fucking day "YOU GOTTA JOB YET?!" with the evil eyes lol. It's the lectures she gives me that I hate the most, the "a job will give you good life skills". Yeah I know that but damn doesn't she go in. I mean it's not like I'm one of those nerds who locks themselves in a basement who hasn't seen daylight for weeks. LOL.

no an education gives you good life skills, a job gives you money
the only way it gives you decent skills is if you drop onto a job (or apprenticeship in the career you want to stay in)and get to climb up the ladder but your education may suffer
the two are possible i've seen it done but you'll need backing for it to be successful (yes you can hold down a full time course and full time job and come out of it with the highest grades)
surely she could come to a compromise of £10 a week until your education is done (or something similar)
if it were me i would hold off until you'd gone through college and if you wanted to university and then you could contribute to the bills but then it would be £40 a week  and you'd have to stay at home for at least 3 years B-)

Jobs do give you life skills and more importantly experience. Studying full-time and working isn't a new thing and most people do it anyway. Finding a decent job is fricking hard though unless you know someone working in that company they might refer you to the manager or something. Hard times.

maybe i'm just old fashioned in my way of thinking that you stand a better chance of getting a higher paid job without trying with more qualifications under your belt than just jumping into the first job to make someone happy and trying to claw your way up the ladder (if this is what they are expecting of you)
oh unless you want to work in mcdonalds then anything i've said doesn't count j/k
or even get a paper round which will give you all your time to study and your mum's £15

It's not old-fashion...ever heard of interships or maybe work placements? Of course a stock-filler job doesn't include this. I'd think twice about throwing all your eggs in one basket and studying for that top job as it might not happen.

"internships or maybe work placements"

17 still technically rates you as a kid which as I recall means everyone in a company needs a CRB check (no overly much but it adds up), I may be wrong here and it actually is 16.
Secondly have you seen the (mandatory) insurance rates on such things these days, just about every mechanic, electrician, plumber, builder..... I know has had to stop offering them as it is too expensive.
Thirdly: I invite you to try and find something half decent these days without experience, especially right now (3 weeks into the school year and long enough after graduation for holidays and the like).

Edit in reply to below. My bad.

Don't complain, She has every right to.

At 17 you shouldn't be jobless. That is just down to damn laziness.
