For a moment I thought it was about releasing a game for N64/PlayStation 1, not one that looks similar to games from that era. Instead:
Platforms: Windows/Linux/Switch

Well… nice to see support for Linux, but meh, I don't know. There are so many so-called retro games (mostly 2D with ridiculously huge pixels) that pretend to be just like in the past. The only difference is that hardware limitation back then required so many clever workarounds and lead to games in the size of a 24KB (small NES) up to 6MB (huge SNES). Now everybody uses a big engine with a ton of libraries…

We have "retro" games in the size of 100MB or more (the demo in itch.io is more than 200MB uncompressed). Admittedly, this is a 2.5D platformer and especially PlayStation 1 games tended to be quite large back than – but most of the time due to CDDA or a lot of mildly compressed audio (voice acting) or even full motion video.
===========

Few newer games that look like older games convinced me from the way the game felt when playing. Shovel Knight is a brilliant example as well as Bloodstained: Curse of the moon. The latter one screamed "Castlevania III Dracula's Curse" so loud and gave a flash of nostalgia just because of this.

to reproduce the feel of the old school era you have to make the game with in the restrictions of the era. I'm not knocking your game at all. The problem with the 2d retro modern makes os that they purposely pixulate it. During the nes and snes era those games were not even displayed pixulated.

Thats because the display was a crt. The crt blended all the pixles together and smoothed it. so you could not even see the pixulation. I dont know why the retro style game makers cant understand this fact. They really need to boot up a snes on a crt and see what im talking about. On HDTVs u see all the pixulation and its crap. If you play shovel knight on a crt, which i did, it looks exactly like a nes game did in the past.

Now your game is 3d so it dont apply here. Its more of a n64 game.

I feel like some of these games need to stop branding themselves as nes throwbacks just cause shovel knight did, cause pixel art by itself is amazing and there’s no need to pretend it’s an nes game. Like look at sonic mania, it doesn’t brand itself as a genesis game, it’s a modern pixel art game and it’s proud of it, taking advantage of all the good things we have nowadays

@Scott Pilgrim This isn't branding itself as an NES throwback. Its branding itself as a 5th gen throwback. Nobody's just "pretending its an NES game". The intent of this game is very clearly to provide a mix tape of some of the best 5th gen 2D and 2.5D platformers. Most games with pixel art don't brand themselves as throwbacks. Shovel Knight isn't some diamond in the ruff, either. It didn't start a trend, because it never existed. The game isn't trying to hide its influences, which are very clearly the driving force behind the entire project. And yes, Sonic Mania was treated like a throwback and nothing else by Sega themselves, because I guess they got cold feet and thought the game wouldn't sell otherwise, even though the franchise consistently tops sales charts in the genre. Although I guess this kinda mentality has been proven by the general public with Crash 4's... let's just say underwhelming sales. This game, however, is very clearly a small indie title for people who have been longing for another title similar to some of their PlayStation, Saturn, or N64 favorites. And considering how broad that is inherently, the combination will surely make for something holey original. If we'd take a step out of the video game industry for a quick second, Mr. Robot wears its inspirations on its sleeve, and yet the amount of those influences and the way they are utilized makes Mr. Robot a wholly original. This here is very much branding itself as a throwback because that is exactly what it is. This industry has plenty of room for completely original projects (even if that isn't taken advantage of), but this game is very much not that, and I don't see how that is necessarily a bad thing. Obviously the market has been over-saturated with revivals in the past, but that age ended several years ago, and 5th gen wasn't exactly something that returned often. The only example for that I could think of at all is the 2008/09 remake of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, but that wasn't exactly a "return" to that style or era, but instead a chance to give the series life once more via a remake of the first game, and whaddya' know, it didn't succeeded, even in the region that the OG title was successful in before. Most of this is because the 5th generation was the beginning of the end of the mascot platformer reign that had carried the entire industry up to that point. Once you get to the second half of the 6th gen, the linear first-person shooter had already taken over, with the open-world sandbox sitting in the vice position, waiting for that genre to die until it could take over. Because of all of this, mascot platformers from that generation were noticeably less successful than ones of generations prior. This then caused the industry to value titles like this less, causing the current drought we are currently in. While many have attempted to step up and restore the genre to its further glory, it will likely always be seen as the "retro" genre among the general public from now on, and while this goes without saying, that's a damn shame. Two of the titles this game prides itself on being great inspirations for also just so happen to be up there as two of the most legendary games ever made. I'm sure these people are just like me. They want to squeeze more out of the genre's huge list of untapped ideas in an attempt to live up to their inspirations, and I think that's pretty admirable.

For the nes throwback thing i wasn’t talking about this, also holy shit hylainbran said something sensible, someone photograph this moment

It looks aesthetically low-quality enough to feel cheap but not enough to feel authentic.

Parts of it feel like they'd work on PS1, but other elements almost feel too clean to fit in with the era. And it doesn't quite break those limitations in a way that gives it its own appealing identity like something like Shovel Knight did.
