Finally buying my very first gaming pc

After not having a runnable pc for about 2+ years, I've finally broke down to buy one instead of building my own from scratch.

So here it is: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883272180

I haven't dug around pc parts for the longest time, so I had to relearn what I previously knew plus more. Before I started looking for PCs, I had no frigging clue what a SSD was, or how it will considerably speed up my load times. I've never used Windows 10 before, so I'm a little bit nervous about trying it. When I first looked at it I swear it only had 8gb RAM, it's really all I need I think. 16gb is just a bonus. :P

The graphics card I had much trouble finding satisfaction with. The one I had in mind was (and I'm gonna butcher this) Radeon RX 480 8gb. I guess I can always upgrade later down the line, however the R9 380 4gb should hopefully be fine. Really, the only major games that will be played on it are all the Sims games for my girlfriend, emulators up to PS2 and Wii, and games through Steam apparently, which is also gonna be a new thing for me.

Wish I could have gone with a different color besides red on the case, but at least it'll match my N3DSXL. Another thing that stuck out to me in one of the reviews was that Win10 comes installed on the HDD and the the SSD, so if anybody who happens to reads this knows of a safe, reliable way to migrate Win10 from my HDD to SSD just in case would be really helpful and I will thank you kindly.

I may just make a follow up blog for how everything goes. I'm ordering it as early as tomorrow. I just hope it comes with all of its pieces. I'm excited as fuck.

Oh it always pains me to see people buying prebuilt rather than building your own. You could make such a nice PC on your own for $800.

Have fun anyways!

Is it too late to return the PC and go custom instead? Those specs are terrible for the price.

@Attacker3 Honestly, I would have made mine custom if I had the time to build it. Plus my girlfriend has been begging for a working computer. I don't blame her really. We need a computer.

@RemixDeluxe As this is the first time actually buying a pc, it seemed the most suitable for me. I'm very new when it comes to understanding what does what better. If you had any suggestions on a different pre-built I'll happily take them.

dont return it. just make a few upgrades. get a fx 8350 or 8370 cpu, a rx 480 graphics card since itll run better with all amd hardware, and a 360mm AIO liquid cooler or a high end cpu heatsink an combo. other then that, you should be good to go. make these upgrades and youll have a better pc all together.

If you took the time to understand current gen components your patience will be rewarded with something stronger on lower price. I don't have any advice on pre-built PCs other than to avoid them like the plague, sorry.

I don't want to be the one to be like "go build one instead" but all I can say is that you get your money's worth for building it instead of a prebuilt one.

if I had the time to build it.

"Building" a pc with modern components is more like playing with legos. It's really easy - the actual building process will take you like 2 hours max (20 minutes if you know what you're doing).

@x65943 unless you get a thermaltake core p5 or p3 tower. get one of those and you're on your own with putting it together since the directions are crap.

What a piece of junk for 800. Can you open your butthole for me, I want to jam more shit down it.

Lol 4 year old junk amd processor gets beat by i3s. Radeon 380. Likely shit PSU. Please next time just take your 800 buy a better pc with parts for 500 and burn the rest on YouTube for the views

I'm only getting a prebuilt because I have no home computer. I'll build my own someday, but it can't be right now. I'm open to making upgrades like @nero99 suggested until I'm confident in trying the whole thing.

@DDTarZan, about migrating windows 10. install mini partition tool wizard. it has the option to migrate hdd to ssd. assuming you have the same amount or more of free space on the ssd.

Why don't you just build a computer that you won't need to upgrade for many years. You got a processor from 4 years ago and a GPU from 2generations back. You could have got a current gen i5 or i7. And a 1060 or 1070. Aka something that will last you years instead of all these outdate components. Find someone on Craigslist to put it together for you for like 50 or something. On top of everything you have some no name junker compnay. You now have no control over the quality of any of the components and if something does go wrong you are now at the will of their support. Good luck

Intel is better than AMD... clone your current drive to the new one to transfer everything.

not everyone has the money to blow on over priced intel hardware and over priced nvidia hardware

ill stick with my 8 core 8350 instead of dropping $1,000 on a 8 core intel cpu. Cheaper per fps? my cpu only cost me $125 brand new and plays all my games on high settings and a few on ultra at 50-60 fps with my nitro rx 460 4gb. true amd is a bit behind intel for now. but if you can play all modern games on a fx8 series chip with very few issues, why switch? the only reason i've ever considered building a intel pc is because of that sexy DDR4. But thatl will arrive for amd once the ZEN cpu line is released.

@nero99 Who said anything about $1000? An i3-6100 is only $110 and equal in performance. Unless of course you're arguing that 125 < 110...

If you are afraid to assemble your PC you have a whole community of PC users here that is willing to help you every step of the way. I still dont think you should buy prebuilt but you seem too adamant in your decision for it.

Anyways the 2nd prebuilt is slightly better imo

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.

I like that games can be fixed after the fact, hate that it's being abused via beta tests... And DLC... I was a 7800 owner back in the day and loved Impossible Mission, turns out I couldn't beat it because it was actually impossible lol

I never knew about it at the time but a fixed version was available but you had to mail in your broken copy lol
