Fate of My DS Part 1

What's this? This is a little story about my late NDS's history. I actually lost my NDS, which is 9 months old, and I lost it 3 days ago.

So, what of it? Well, nothing... I just want to write something about my late NDS, since it's practically my life.

I first found out about Nintendo Dual Screen around 4 years ago, when I'm still a highschooler. As a kid surrounded with the world of games, being able to collect ALL game platforms is my dream. However, as lucky as I can be (I owned NES,SNES,PSX, and PS2 at that time), I can't force my luck, as my Mom is so strict about me. I can't just ask: "Mom, I want an NDS" and she'll say "Yes, dear, go and get one, I'll give you the money". No, No matter what I do, she won't let me to buy even a GBA around 2004. And, well, I can't do anything, the money's in my Mom's hands, not mine.

For three years I wait, from when I first read about Nintendo's plans about a new handheld console in a game magazine to the time when NDSLite is out, and slot-1 flashcarts has been out for a while. I, as a boy has always been fascinated by how developers can manipulate graphics at will, so that each game is different in terms of graphics. So, I joined the Computer Analysis club. We learned about Pascal languange program, just the basics though. I got chosen (by random, actually) to compete in National Olympics Computer division. The Goddess of Fortune favored me back then, I made it through the City level, Province level, and I made it to National level.

However, as grateful as can be, it's not the glory I after, it's the money. I made it to Province level the year before, so I knew that I'll get lotsa money should I made it to National level. Indeed, although I didn't win any medal, I got $300 for my efforts. After a little negotiation, the school took $130, consider it the fee to get to National level they said. I can't actually complain, so I agreed, and I was left with $170. Without a doubt I ordered an NDS, Onyx, along with its case, R4DS, and 1GB SanDisk microSD. For three years I yearned and waited, and at last, my dream came true.

After I bought my NDS, I played it everyday, even when the National Exam is on. I took care of it so well, as I've waited for 3 years, and I bought it with my own money. Sure I got problems, the screen protector was scratched, the touchscreen softened, my microSD corrupted, but I was always happy with my NDS.

For some odd reason, somehow the A button broke, it's still playable, but sometimes it triggers by itself, ruining gaming experience with Taiko no Tatsujin DS. So, after I've collected enoguh money and information about the repair cost, I asked a shop to repair it, for $10. I also bought an EDGE, and a 8GB microSDHC for a total of $47.5
Never did I realize that that's when my luck started to run out.

I entered a college in the capital, and I was planning to go back to my hometown. I was scheduled to get my NDs and then rush to the airport, but my friend was late to pick me up, so we went straight to the airport, as for my NDS, my sister picked it up, along with the EDGE.

After 2 weeks, I got back to the capital, the schedule was to get my friend to pick me up, get to my sister's place, and go to my place. It sounded like a plan, but things started to screw up, the plane was delayed, and my frined couldn't pick me up, I was forced to sleep at my neighbor's place, he'll give me a ride the next day with a bike. I worried about nothing, I remembered my dad's advice: "Don't you go to anywhere on a bike" I didn't think about it too much, my dad's a little paranoid.

The next day, I went to my sister's place. picked up my NDS, it's in a plastic bag, at the top of piles of things inside it. I placed it between me and my neighbor, my right hand was occupied, there's a box I should carry, while my left hand hold onto the bike. Everything went smoothly until I felt something dropped from the bag on the street. I almost panicked, but I tried to search the bag and touched something that feels like my NDS case, so I continued without saying anything.

When we reached the parking lot, I searched my bag, and much to my surprise, my worst fear comes true: my NDS, my life and my only portable console, has gone. I panicked and called my sister, hoping that actually it's just the case, but she said the NDS was inside the case. I asked my neighbor and we searched the street for any signs of my DS, we saw a triangle shaped thing on the street. Realizing it's my EDGE box, I went and picked it up, inside was EDGE and a microSD reader. the box was pretty messed up, but the contens should be alright. I searched again, and found a plastic bag, flatened. I picked it up and recognized it as the bag containing my NDS. the base was cut off, and some guy told us a guy on a bike had already picked it up. I panicked, the chance of my NDS's survival is close to 0%, we've found the EDGE, and the plastic bag, but the NDS is gone.

We tried to search the street again, but then I was forced to accept the cruel fate: my NDS, my life, was taken by some bastard, along with my R4DS, a 1GB microSD and a 8GB microSDHC that even I have never touched.

The guy who took it must not know any shit about NDS, he threw away the EDGE, meaning he doesn't know that EDGE is something crucial in playing a DS. What's more, I can only imagine it's some guy who saw it's an electronic device. maybe he'll sell it to somebody for a fuckin' low price, maybe just $10. Maybe he gave it to his child, who can't understand a fucking word of English, and threw it to the wall. Maybe his child knew English and about NDS, but is a shitty people and treat my NDS cruelly.

I've bought a new NDS , the only thing I need now is a microSDHC, then I'm ready to play NDS again, but seeing my new DS, I can't stop to think about my ol' good NDSL, and to think about what's it doing right now.... it's pretty sad, but what's gone is gone, ranting about it, like this, won't bring it back to me....

Epic bummer though. at least you have the edge...

Sorry to hear that man, that really sucks.

G
yep, me too, makes me feel a bit paranoid to touch it always, but w/E.

Well... sad for you I guess, but I'm happy you got an DS now after all, kinda reminds me of my GBA ^^.

I honestly feel like ranting about how I lost my first DS. I feel so sorry for you. But its all good, at least you have your new DS.

You should check the member intro section everyday, if someone says he/she found a DS on the street...you know what's next!

Uh, you do realise that it's not really some guy's fault that you don't have your DS any more, right? You act like he walked into your house, punched you in the nose, stole your DS and ran off. You dropped it, you neglected to check after feeling that you'd dropped something. It sucks that you don't have your DS any more, but man up and take responsibility for the fact that you dropped it.

he threw away the edge? XD I dont know why, but I find that really funny.... I cant stop laughing after I read that part... I dont know why XD

sorry what happened though... I would cry if I lost my DS ,_,;;
