Flashcards in Public

I just went to get some frozen yogurt at a local place called Orange Leaf. I grabbed a normal size cup and I filled with Lychee flavor (my favorite).

All of a sudden normal looking family walks in with a kid, older sister (who was cute and was the reason I was paying attention to them in the first place), and their mom. I notice the mom is holding an old DS Lite in White for the kid. She sets down her daughter's Pantec Duo slide phone and her son's DS Lite on the counter with the game slot facing me.

I look over casually at the stuff when I find myself doing a double-take. The game was white! I take a closer look and there was a small splotch of black on the corner, a MicroSD. So basically the DS either had a really old first gen R4 or a Cyclo DS.

I found this interesting as I usually don't see them in public much, how about you guys?

I have seen TONS. Mainly because I tell people about mine whenever they ask. XP Plus, Chicago is a big city, full of tons of people (who are PIRATES!!! :P).

ALL my friends in school had one, in high school. I told them all about them, and INSISTED they play Jump with me. :P

LOL if I were a EA I'd accuse you of inciting piracy, my friend.

so what have we learned, some places are clueless about flash carts, and others are sailing on pirate ships(maybe).m :rofl2:

It was most likely a DSTT in that DS lite you saw. I saw a vendor at a convention once using an old DS Extreme cart with her DS, the usb port gave it away. I also encountered some older ladies talking about how their nephew was able to put a "chip" in his DS so he could download games from the net. They thought that was a perfectly normal thing to do.

Only me and a few friends have flashcards. A bunch of my friends now have them because they saw my Acekard 2i and I convinced them to get one, but I've only met one other person who already had one.

Anyway, white with a small black part? Could be an iPlayer.

One time I was taking a dump and I looked at my DS and behold! Inside slot 1 was an Acekard 2i! It was quite the sight. Then I wiped.

Eh nobody seems to care.

One of my coworkers got a DSTwo like I did at the suggestion of using a flashcart to put all of his games on and not having to carry them all around.

Thinks's it's the best thing since the birth of the internet. Additionally both of us have an unwritten rule not to discuss it when our Video Game reps are there. Not sure if they'd really care or know what we're talking about though.

Ah, but mon ami, that is the reason why you get an EZ-Flash Vi!

Seriously, think about the other people you saw playing their DS.
They could have been using an EZ-Flash Vi and you wouldn't know.

and no i never see them, just other people sometimes see that my (regular) dstwo looks funny and ask about it, then i get the heck out of there :ninja:
Why the heck would an 8 year-old have a limited edition DS2?
Seconded.

There was a Japanese-American student in my Philosophy class using one to record the prof's lectures. I thought that was the coolest thing ever at the time and I went and bought my first flashcard shortly after that. Changed my gaming life! ^_^
wait there's an audio recording app for ds?
Yeah, it's called Moonshell.

I LOL'd at that.

True that.
Those kids at school... Two years ago, at christmas, my friend brought his DS with his AK2i.
We went to that place where everyone goes to play their DS or their PSP or whatever.
Then I noticed everyone had a DSTT. I'm like "... Epic Fail..."

I doubt it'd be an iPlayer.

I have never seen them in public. Once I heard a family at walmart talking about one though. The little kid was asking his parents to get him a game, but they were like "no, we can already get that game on your R4 thingy." Other than that I have never seen or heard of any flash cards in public.

I've seen more 10 year olds etc. with them than I ever thought I would. I'd have thought they wouldn't really know how to work them properly, or find the ROMs online. Only spotted them occasionally and its almost exclusively kids I see with them.

If Nintendo is reading that thread they should be like "Fffffffuuuuuuuu"

Personally, apart from my brother, and some people where I work, I didn't had the chance to see someone outside playing with a flashcart.

i have friends of my mum with kids that own a r4 clone.
and a friend of mine who's family gets EZ-Flash line of products.

what if the parents don't know how to update the r4?

I see a lot of people who show their flashcards in public. Most of that flashcards are M3i ZERO,some r4 and a few m3 ds reals.

I've seen one person at college with it. Otherwise, a few of my friends have them + my little brother (at my insistence)

But I pull out my 3DS + DSTWO very often. People ask my how I play Pokemon Sapphire on a 3DS with no gba slot. I RTS and show em the cart.

Same thing, but I was nine. :yaynds:
I have a friend that has a dad that actually told my dad to get me a first gen, white, R4 for my Ds lite, which became obsolete due to the broken screen and my American launch day DSi.
Other than the friend, his family, and another friend who I gave my old R4 to, no.

I was watching good game spawn point the other day and they showed a chick playing a ds with a flashcard in it. I couldn't believe my eyes. Not sure what one it was but it was definitely a white flashcart.

Only a couple of family/friends I know have DS flashcarts. Mostly, I've sold older stuff (an R4 with Wood) to them as well.

I usually use my DSL as a MP3 player, and it does attract a ton of attention. I've had people say that it's a video player, but never a flashcart.

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's been there for a long time, too. People who search for lost media don't look hard enough lmao.

@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Iirc the demos were removed from newgrounds in 2022

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
Fun fact @SylverReZ: iirc one of the goals on the fnf Kickstarter stated that pico 2 would be finished but the Kickstarter didnt get enough money for that goal to be fullfiled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, FNF sucks, their community is toxic as hell.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@SylverReZ its a single player game
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, Yea but it has a shitton of mods with their own songs and stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and quite a lot of people involved in those mods get cancelled
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Newgrounds wasn't the birth of FNF; rather, it was games where you beat up celebrities and parodies.
