NEW HYRULE ROYAL CREST 3ds!!!

I just created my new Royal Crest on the back of my 3ds. So when I open it up everyone can see how much i love Zelda!

Here are the pics, instructions will be posted below.

This is the Material I used

You can get it on ebay its
called GOLD CHROME VINYL Roll Sheet Adhesive Sticker Decal its like 3.99 per foot or something cheap.

It was made for cars i guess, but you can use it for ipods, and all types of stuff. No GLUE needed by the way it sticks and removes with a sharp plastic edge.

Just peels off like foil, but its strong its also weather proof I also showed proof that it goes on and off without leaving marks or tearing the gold paper.

I hope you like it! took about 1 hour to do of cutting and such.

What i did was PRINT the image of the crest from the net.

Turned over the gold vinyl after cutting a square big enough for the design.

then just used packing tape to tape the "printer paper image" to the BACK of the gold paper.

so then i just needed to cut it. Because it was taped well it didn't fall off and i got a good crest!

This can be used for ANY type of design.

Thank you everyone! My first experiment was a failure! i put it on upside down, and used wrapping paper that peeled up after 5 hours in my pocket!

Now... well ahaha anyone else want one?

...Anyone else have a strong urge to use this method to create a TWEWY-styled DS/3DS?
I'm definitely going to try this some time in the future.

Gahhh no matter how many ways I view, I still love it!

I'm just one lazy ass son of a gun and will probably never get to attempting it @_@
I actually prefer it "upside down", btw.

Well done though!

I must say that looks Great, Very well done! :yay:
But with that said, this really doesn't have a lot of bearing on the 3DS scene itself. It's more of a blog.

With every new reply praising this wonderful customization I feel more and more inclined to create my own TWEWY-styled DS. Oh, if only I didn't only own a cobalt DS. (And had a single artistic bone in my body.)

A better method would have been to use Illustrator to trace a pre existing image with the pen tool then perhaps print this out onto a see through type of paper, tracing paper for example. The cut would have been infinitely more clean.

Also at my college there's this machine that I use in the graphics studio called a 'Roland Cutter'. It CUTS through paper, vinyl and stuff using Illustrator Paths for you so i might give this a shot...it'll take me 10-15 mins ;)

looked up the method about the roland cutter. Nice idea. I dont think i would want to spend the money for that though. And I dont have the patience to figure out how the software works and test it.

I was thinking about using tracing paper its hard to get the curves though. Im going to look for a manual cutter of some type at michaels craft store or something. Like lay down the design and use this type of board/wire/cheese cutter if you will, to cut any shape perfectly!!!

Only thing that's off, is the upside down triangle in the triforce, it's too small. All the Triangles are the same size. But other than that, it's pretty damn good.

He probably did it so he'd only have to cut out one piece for the Triforce.

But yeah, I'm tempted to do this to my 3DS, but I want to know a few things:

1) How easy/hard is it for the stuff to come off? Like, if the 3DS is in my pocket, would there be a risk of it coming off?
2) How many feet of the decal roll sheet do you suggest I buy if I go through with this?
3) Any chance you can upload the "stencil" design?

pretty sure he did that to make his life easier. lining up three separate triangles would be a lot harder than one.

Looks a lot better than the old one, which was just gold corrugated cardboard rather than foil. Creator obviously didn't put much effort into finding some good materials...

Wow, that looks much better than the last one! much more reflective, fitting the shiny black from the 3ds!
(and I like it a lot better now that you put it the right way up this time ;) )

The Design i used was this

Yes the material peels off like a sticker but holds stronger.

No residue is left.

I redid my triangle in the triforce i cut three individual parts and put them together.

After cutting them out i used an exacto knife and stuck a small part of the gold sticker cut out to it and used the knife to position it. Then just press down, while removing the exacto knife.

I tried alot of different methods like cutting a stencil, but printing it on plain paper and simply taping it to the back of the gold sticker was the best method. I used a small pair of scissors to cut out.

You have to be careful around the small corner edges like in between the the "wings" because if you cut sharp rather then round edges it can leave a small bump like the material bent slightly and left a mark. Its not really bad just go slow and you wont have that problem. But you cant really see any thing from my pictures.

Umm oh yeah I bought from the website i posted quantity of 2. I think thats like 2feet by 2 feet or 3 feet by 2 feet. I have tons left. Some Parts of it may be distorted in shipping but thats due to the transport. Once its BENT it will leave a line mark or if its Squashed it will leave a perm squash mark.

Mine had a big one in the center about 2inches by 2 inches. But there is so much material that it even if there are BAD parts you will always have alot to work with and its only like 3 -7 bucks!

Im thinking to create something new with more colors. but am lazy right now.

Thanks everyone for your input!

I also recut the wings i noticed at the TOP the circle part tends to be a little thin. If you cut it a bit thicker it wont peel off AT ALL in your pocket.

I have had NO problems though with my original since i did it. I pocket it in my jacket all day and take it everywhere. Looks great! And if i get sick of it I can take it off.
