My dad went on a rant.

Note: B's as in grades.

So, I got a B- (40/50) on a Social Studies quiz that more than half of my entire grade failed. Now, my dad is so amazing that he can tell my ENTIRE academic future with that one grade. He says that I don't have a chance of getting into colleges such as USC. He also said that B's are TERRIBLE grades and he will take everything away if I get a B again. Thoughts?

Comments

[sarcasm]I agree with him. A stands for 'A Doctor', 'A Lawyer'. He just trying to help.[/sarcasm]

mychonny FTW.

That aside, that's pretty retarded. I only get C grade rants. B's, I just get told I could've done better. Hope he calms down a bit.

He's usually grouchy for about a week and then completely forgets. It's become like a tradition.

Then ignore him.

It's obviously bothering you, and if it happens often, it really shouldn't.

I always ignore him, but in the end, he crosses the line and I end up blogging about. It happens WAY more than you could believe...

I am in 7th grade.

Wow, that's crazy. I just failed three classes because of procrastination(If you only count the work I actually did I had straight A's), and I haven't heard any rant at all.

Dad just says, "Take responsibility." And then his profound all encompassing answer for my procrastination, "Just do it." Yeah, thanks Dad, that really helps...eh, but it's better than a rant so I guess I should be thankful. :P

Wow that is a bit ridiculous unless since those don't even matter for college.

You are one lucky bastard. If I failed a class, I will probably never see another monitor until I move out.

Don´t pay him too much attention, that sort of people rarely help in your self-esteem.

I bet when you´re older and have a good life he will say you´re great and all.

I´d just try to focus on those which really help, like a good friend, or an actually supporting family member. You can skip those kind of comments also.

Try to find a way to release shit like this, and don´t be pissed off. If you somehow managed to finish this, then that´s your payment.

Yeah, it's strange. I'm still able to play games and stuff a lot...maybe they want me to fail again in the future? :ninja:

You're in 7th grade? I am impressed with your ability to not suck on the internet. Seriously, rarely do you see someone with such good grammar and punctuation as yourself. Tell your dad that.

As for University grades, I will quote a sheet my teacher gave me.

A: An A paper is extraordinary work that more than fulfils the requirements of the assignment.
B: A B paper is clearly above-average and more than meets the requirements of the assignment.
C: A C paper is average work that solidly meets the requirements of the assignment.

And you can imagine how it goes from there on.

A B is a really good mark. You will get into University with a B average. And no one gives a shit or even has access to what your grade 7 marks were

if there's anything i learnt from school and grades its this:

it doesn't matter when you get to university

yeah, but pass grades 10,11,and 12 with average SAT and your good to go.

Knowing my dad, he wouldn't care about that. But looks like he's been wrong all year.

Your dad's a fucking idiot if he says B's are horrible grades. Especially when it's in Grade 7, because it's not until about Grade 9 when Grades start to matter big time anyways.

I've done that too in my sophomore year of highschool where I never did math homework but did relatively well on the tests.
And failed.

People where I live would ask 'Is he Asian?' :P
Other than that, I've convinced my parents that if they 'take everything away' I'd have no motivation to do anything and just fail everything.
Does take a while, but I just keep asking them the question 'How does taking everything away help?'
Or you can take psychology and learn that positive reinforcement is better than negative reinforcement and somehow explain that to them.

Also USC, you live in California too? :)
