An American type HD Nintendo Console?

How do you feel about an HD Nintendo console that uses strictly controllers, is compatible with live chat, and game invites?

For instance, I turn on my Nintendo system, plug-in my Ethernet cable, put in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, plug-in the mic into my controller, invite three friends on my friends list, and we all play.

All of the Nintendo games have trophies / achievements.

How do you people feel towards this approach, would you appreciate it more?

There's a solution he can use.

There, don't you feel better you finally have your American type Nintendo console?

while the PS3 has the same capabilities, but isn't all about what Xbox 360 is trying to ensue over consumers.

And that's a good thing. They aren't trying to pinch every penny out of your pocket in order for you to play online.

I'd say enjoy what you have and "don't fix what isn't broken".

I said, "American", because PC gaming and the Xbox 360 contain more personal interactivity between both parties, while the PS3 has the same capabilities, but isn't all about what Xbox 360 is trying to ensue over consumers.

Eastern consoles weren't much into online gaming aside from the Dreamcast and PS2, but the original Xbox basically tried to match the PC gaming experience.

Because PC gaming is completely something only Americans do. Fuck Starcraft, no one plays that game.

I was speaking in terms of console gaming, the Xbox 360 tries to create the same online experience as PC gaming. Eastern online gaming, with "consoles", does not provide that same experience.

Eastern gaming on the PC is an entirely different topic.

You grouped the PC and the Xbox in the same category of social interaction and it basically felt like you were implying that PC gaming is only a western thing.

Also, you said the PS3 provides the same experience basically but didn't want to admit it because Microsoft is just so awesome. :glare:

Are we living on the same planet?

Online gaming on the 360 is just as popular as PC gaming. A 360 overheats just as fast as a PC.
A bunch of people gather to play a decent game while not having their ass numb out.
PC is a different topic, your ass numbs.

The Saturn had on-line play as well. It was head to head via a modem but it was still on-line play. They had on-line play on consoles in Japan before we did in the West.

How exactly?
Because we're eastern we don't game to the same standards as America?

Gaming is the same around the globe because we all have access to the same consoles/PCs/whatever.
Adding to that, the "rest of the world" is alot bigger than America so targeting solely an american audiance wouldn't benefit the companies that make/sell consoles, PC's e.t.c. as much as it would benefit them to include the rest of the world.

Market Research for Consoles is global and they try to bring the best of everything when making a console to have a wide target audience.

The Wii targets famalies and not individuals, and tries to bring a "safe" enviroment for children to game in.
The 360 targets more the "core-hardcore" gamer and THEN the casual gamer bringing an online experience which is "complex" yet very simple (but freaking expensive )
and as for the PS3 I don't own one so I simply won't comment.
Finally PC gaming targets the more hardcore gamers and consumers that can splash abit of cash around upgrading there PC as most if not all casual gamers turn to the consoles for there gaming needs.

It's because the PS3 does provide the same experience, I have all three systems.

My main point was to bypass the technicalities.

I was mainly stating, "How would you like it if the online play, and hardware for the Wii was better and more interactive?

I personally, would like to be able to chat with people online effortlessly, or invite people, instead of being limited by friend codes. I understand the Wii's purpose was not to adhere to hardcore online play, however, I was just placing the idea on the table, not, "I want the Wii to be the Xbox 360", it was a "What if" scenario.

When me and my older brother want to play the Wii online with each other, we either, call each other while playing, or use the Xbox 360 to chat with a mic, because he doesn't have a PS3 for his own reasons.

A completely strong point, thanks for clarifying.

It's not hard to look up a code.

I too, have all three systems and the PS3 gives you plenty of options for playing with others. For example, if you have a bluetooth for your phone, perfect, use it. You have wi-fi too? Good, use it, for free.

If you want to talk online while you play on the 360... Go buy a damn headset  and while you're at it, pay to play online!

With the wii, it's free and you don't have to worry about other people interrupting your game or being rude, cause you know them. It keeps children from learning words they shouldn't know, as well. That's why it's more of a family system than the other two consoles.

Saying you're "placing the idea on the table" is basically saying you want a Xbox Wii60, just poorly disguised to prevent you from looking like a fanboy.

Yeah, Wii online sucks, get used to it. If you want online gaming go play something else, that's all there is to it. It was not designed to be an online console like the Xbox was. It's a good compliment system to a PS3 or Xbox, not a viable replacement though.

Am I the only one that completely agrees that the Wii is completely lacking in the online department? After getting a 360 for Christmas, I realized how shitty the Wii was in terms of online. In fact since getting my 360 the only things I hooked my Wii up for was Super Mario Galaxy 2, and a few other games that makes me sorry I did. In fact the 360 has made me feel that if I cannot talk to my friends, or it doesn't have online play then the game may not be worth it. I also started to make it a point to read reviews and see if the online gameplay was worth it, or the same for single player. The only games I have bought in recent memory that did not have online play were Fallout 3 and Oblivion. All the others had some sort of online multiplayer that was entertaining. I find friend codes to be inconvenient, and so far the only game I played that automatically notified you of a friend code request was The Conduit. The only game I have ever voice chatted with my friends was Animal Crossing. I wish the Wii was more like the Xbox 360 and PS3. I wish I could chat with my friends, send messages, talk online properly, etc. I couldn't begin to tell you how much more fun certain games would have been with some sort of achievement system. I hope that Nintendo steps up with their next console and provides a better online experience that either is on par with the current systems, or blows the existing ones away.

No, you aren't the only one. I had a Wii longer than I ever had my 360, and I agree 100%. The online is pretty bad. I remember always having to wait forever for a Brawl match to be found, and then it would just lag out.

I also wish I could've talked online without having every sound in the room get picked it, or having everyone in the room be able to hear what the people on the other end(s) of the mic are saying. That's what a headset is for. The Wii Message Board is pretty slow with sending and receiving messages. Sometimes the message never even sends.

If the online had more interactivity, like cross-game voice chat, or even a good voice chat system at all, I would've kept my Wii instead of trading it to someone for an iPod or whatever it was I traded it to them for.

Sure, there are great single player games, even though the Wii's library is mostly single player games, but online is fun too. And to actually have fun with online games, you need a better online gaming service. Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection just doesn't cut it.

EDIT:
Nintendo's current success is by NOT being like all the other consoles.
No, Nintendo's current success is by good marketing and advertising, and a few iconic games every once in a while. The motion sensing idea is a gimmick, and as much as a Nintendo fan as I am (I don't hate the Wii...I waited 16 hours at launch to get one), the gimmick has gotten old. Why couldn't they just have another system with a controller with buttons, and that's all.

And it's not just the controller. Nintendo is trying to be TOO innovative and creative with the products they make, and it's for the worst. Look at WiiSpeak. If you have friends over or something, and you are online with a friend using WiiSpeak, it's kind of awkward, especially if your friend on the Wii says something you don't want anyone else hearing. That's what a headset is for.

Then we have the Balance Board. I'm sure most "hardcore" Nintendo fans would rather have a new Zelda game than a wireless scale/pressure sensor. It's another gimmick, which in my opinion, isn't needed. I want to play good old Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon games, not Wii Fit.

Said like a true adaptive gamer TDWP. I just hope Nintendo gets the 3DS right. With as much as the stuff I have heard about it's online capabilities, I really don't want to be disappointed.

After playing the 360, I believe that a good handheld online platform would be a dream come true. Think about it, you're visiting a restaurant that has some form of internet. You then realize: Oh shit, I just remembered I have a clan match to play!! You then pull out your handheld and arrive in your clan's lobby just in time for a quick and dirty noob slaying. The existing DS headset could even be used. The great thing is that the headset could just be wrapped around the console in your pocket.

Actually, when you say it like that, it sounds pretty cool. Like having everything you need to play online in your pocket. I don't play online too much on my DS either. It is just so limited in terms of encryption compatibility. If it didn't have said limitations then I would be an avid user of the DS's online.
