Took the pad out of a knock-off ps3 controller and crammed it in the joycon. Had to take half a centimetre of material off the back of the dpad to make it work lol.
If you want to replicate this you'll need the dpad from a counterfeit ps2 or ps3 controller Here's an AliExpress listing that matches the dpad I used.
The peg in the middle is the crucial bit, Genuine Sony dpads don't have this (they use a separate mechanism). Preserving part of this peg is critical so you can't press all the directional buttons simultaneously.
