Profile pictures

I was just having some random thoughts recently and started thinking about how whenever something I use gives me the option for a custom profile picture or character skin or so I always use one that I've made myself, like I don't think I've ever used just a picture of a character or so for my pfp or even my Minecraft skin, I don't even really consider myself to be good at art or anything, but its always felt really weird to me to just use something created by someone else to identify myself by...

The two main pfps I've used throughout my time on the internet have been my old Pk11 (previously with Epicpkmn11 before I switched to mostly using Pk11 when possible and even more previously with an ugly font) logo with red and black and lines and I dunno I guess I thought it looked cool in 2012 or so :P and more recently a drawing I made that sorta looks like me but like with cat ears because I dunno that I made in the Colors! DS homebrew app, both of which while not looking very good were made fully by me.

If anyone actually reads this I'm curious how y'all pick your pfps since I've always found if pretty weird to use one that you didn't make, but yet like most people don't seem to care and just use something from a game or show they like or so.

Also is this how blogs are supposed to go? I've never written any kinda blog thing before but this seemed kinda fun. ;P

Having the skills of a tree stump when it comes to art I have not much choice. I’m unable to create my own character picture. This is why I identify with Paula from Mother 2/Earthbound. But at least I copied her with these heat fuse pearler beads rather than directly using some ripped sprites.

Yes it’s a weird feeling to use work based on a sprite which is owned by Nintendo. Although I very much like the Mother series, I would prefer having my own creation.

Most of my profile pictures now are artworks of my character, who is based directly on myself.
Literally me, in a way, lol

Similar to what @KleinesSinchen said, I have negative skill when it comes to the visual arts, so I just grabbed the Earthbound logo used in Smash Bros. because most websites ask for circular profile pics these days, and Earthbound was one of the first games I really loved when I was a kid. I'd probably use something a little more personal if I had it, but I don't know what that would be, and I'm hesitant to experiment with it too much because I like to keep my avatars as consistent as possible. I tend to look at people's pictures on forums or social media rather than their names, so I try to keep mine as consistent as I can across platforms and for as long as possible.

Yep. Feels the same.
That's when I thought about using Skulls for all my social stuff.
So I made many skulls in different colors to use in different social networks.

I picked skulls because I find them interesting and nice looking.

I'm a musician, not a graphical artist, but I've always gone with a cat face with X and O as eyes, to symbolize input and output, life and death, yin and yang, among other things I won't get into 'cause it resonates deep with me. I used it to sign stuff while I was gigging, and I've doodled it a lot over the years, so I put it together with colors that meant a lot to me in MS Paint, and.. here we are.

I always used other people's drawings to put it as a profile picture, I know how to draw more with pencil and paper, as I don't have a computer it is difficult to draw something.

My profile pic was a collaborative work with my daughter on Pokemon Art Academy 3DS. Game told us to draw Pikachu. Freya told me to make it look different. Said she'd never seen an evil one. So we painted a series of Evil Pikachus together, me holding the stylus and her guiding the designs. I liked the results so much not only do I proudly display her handiwork on most of my online profiles, my alt PS4 account is literally named Evil Pikachu. I play FF14 as a yellow armoured Dragoon called Evil Pikachu.

Of course Freya kept painting afterwards and now does works on her own, might need another online identity before long.

I don't really have a logic: first (and probably longest) here was a photo of my shadow taken in Neuschwanstein, later (2-3 years ago when the blue christmas hat meme was hot) it was that on five of the most important Pokemon (sponsored link), now it is a tribute to the person I love

I've been using this one for years now, in probably every profile where I use this nickname... it's my online persona by now.
And yeah, I can't draw, but it's considered stealing if the screenshot is from a series whose production house has gone bankrupt? (Rip Moonscoop) :(

Still, it's nice to see people recognize this "eye", from time to time :)
