Recently I rewatching FF7's story. The writing is just great and reminds me how interesting the characters are.
I think it was the first video game that used an unreliable narrative to construct a protagonist as the cloud from Disc 1 is basically idealization of Zack's memory that he made into his own, and this was implanted during date with Aerith ("I want to meet the real you").
Fei from Xenogears is the only character that I could recall, also got a similar treatment, which makes those characters become so complex and memorable.
I am currently watching the Crisis Core to understand what happened in the mako reactor.
