How can they abandon family members? (cats and dogs)

So you see, on July 1st, its Canada's day
but here in Quebec, it's the day when peoples move of apartments/houses
And it occurs that lot of people abandon their cat/dog in their former apartments
It makes me sick
If you never considered them as family members, then you didn't deserve to have one...

About 200 abandoned cats just in Sherbrook (a city at the south of Montreal)
They were brought to refuge but they can't support that much
Refuge prices them half-price to encourage people to adopt one of those poor kitty

I don't have much numbers about abandoned cats/dogs, but theres tons of them abandoned in the province of Quebec :(
sad... very sad...

They are animals and not humans. If my situation doesn't allow me to keep them, I will give them away.

Also, cats would eat their "family members" if they could.

omg... am I really the only one who consider my animal as ^part of my family?
I really don't know how people can abandon their pets
I could never do that :(

did a cat kill you guy's parents or something? they're just animals they have nothing else but you, if you think your pet used you for nothing but food you probably treated your pet like shit and it never bonded with you

honestly, some cats have better survival chances if let on the wild than if go over a moving to a slightly different climate. the dogs thoug are fucked if abandoned

I don't think you should abandon them, But I understand not keeping an animal in that situation. Still they should at least bring them to a shelter or something...

While I don't know if I would argue the opposite (though some people do find themselves rather too attached to their pets for my taste) I can't agree with that.

Any animals I have had were there mostly because they amused. I would feed them, exercise them/play with them, train them, take them to the vet when they were sick enough to warrant it and bury them when they died (viking funeral and sky burials being rather frowned upon in English cities), unless they were food pets and in that case... yeah.
If that is wrong then I am not sure what is right.

I treat my pets as if they're family, 100% certain. I'll never understand people who don't. Even through the midst of the hurricane, I carried my dog through 5ft of water onto a boat to make sure he'd be safe. I broke every rule of the government sanctioned hotel to ensure my dog wasn't going to be taken away to some pound. And I'd do it all again, if given a chance. I don't care what happens, making sure my pets are safe will always be a primary concern to me.

@chary exactly, if my apartment was on fire, I would save my cat before getting out of the building (Mainly because i know where she hides)

Pure animal abuse. My dog is so close to me, he's literally like a best friend to me, he is more than just a family member, if i were to do something bad to him, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself. Those who have a dog just to protect their house and don't even give it some love at all shouldn't have a dog to begin with.

I don't care much for cats, but I love dogs. Idk if I could consider a cat family, but a dog for sure.

I don't like cat personally, but i dont hate them, its just they get mad easily, sleep most of the day, claw you to death if you make them mad etc. But still, cats shouldn't be going through that shit at all.

We chopped off her claws at vet clinic
And honestly, I hug her so much that I'd be dead due to blood loss if she still had her claws :P
