Thinking about going to public school

I will keep this brief. I do not believe I am a getting a proper high school education with homeschooling, and because of that, I am strongly thinking about going to public school. Mainly I was wondering if there was a law that would help me get out of being homeschooled. My first thought is claiming religious persecution of sorts. I am a atheist and the entire school curriculum is religious in every aspect.

The VA homeschool laws: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.ex...+cod+22.1-254.1

My mom operates homeschooling under "D. Nothing in this section shall prohibit a pupil and his parents from obtaining an excuse from school attendance by reason of bona fide religious training or belief pursuant to subdivision B 1 of § 22.1-254. "

So if you can get out public school for religious reasons, can you get in for them?

Note: I have a billion fucking things going through my head. So if my logic seems fried, bite me.

I would think you will be pretty lucky to go to a school on those grounds... but then, it is America :creep:

Have you tried talking to your mum about it?

I don't know if there's anything you can do, but good luck :)

I assume you're asking this question because you know why your parents chose homeschooling and don't think you can get them to change their minds. Have you tried? They might surprise you. Personally I think it's a ridiculous system, but this isn't the place for me to rant about that.

There is no homeschooling here in Greece, I find homeschooling really weird, no offense. Public schools are awesome, you get to make new friends and talk with new people and get a taste of what real life is like...or not.

Talk to your damn parents about it instead of trying to find some loophole in the law for you to be forced into public school.

Worst case is that they will say no then you can work on getting emancipated from your parents.

I was homeschooled too from k-4 7-8! not fun!!! luckily my mom wasnt smart enough to teach highschool so she gave up and sent me to high school. I was so happy to go back to public school! and entering high school as a freshman. Its so much fun. And you make more friends. After a few days of goin to puplic school I never wanted to go back to homeschool. Ofcourse I woulda been extremely nervous entering high school not knowing anyone. I have a couple of classes with my friends from 5th and 6th grade. And after a few days I made alot of other friends. So, Do whatever you can to get out of home school! i used to think like you too. but I got lucky. You cant just sit their and do nothing if thats what you want!

Public School is better.

A. you can skip classes
B. you can fake sick
C. you can do fun shit w/o getting caught

and all classes here are taught Atheistically :D

LOL! My civics teacher has such a high tolerance level. I just talk to people the whole class and he hasnt done anything yet! lol and that fake sick thing. love it! lol. cant skip class tho. dunno bout ur school but mine sends and email and phone call saying i was absent.

Homeschooling, that's like, stupid.
And it should be forbidden or something lol.

Teaching your own children instead of letting them go to a normal school, is like not letting the child live his/her life.

Just a qualifying remark for those reading public school in the US is the equivalent of state schools, public schools in the UK are private schools.
Back on topic Virginia law (even worse as federal and state laws get very confused in matters of schooling, sometimes county and school district too) is not something I am all that knowledgeable about, especially in these matters, so I will have to take a backseat somewhat when it comes to dispensing the law advice.

I will however say consider getting into one of the GED programs (or better) if you can, everyone has to do high school but for you to try and get things done yourself it will speak volumes. Alas most programs prefer you to be 18 before this goes on, I do seem to recall it was you I talked with in a debt thread of yours a while back so you could consider emancipation (it was an option then).
Such steps are drastic though and emancipation is essentially a court acknowledgement that your parents are unfit for task (maybe not quite as harsh as it sounds legally but as far as strain on relationships goes....).

well, i don't skip much anymore.

I used to skip my science (easy as fuck, i used to skip every second class and I still got an A) and socials (I failed first term, doing better now) and get stoned. now i just get stoned at lunch :)

Well yes I did ask them and yes they did say no. So I was kinda hoping for a law loop hole or something.

BTW, I did not make this thread to bash homeschooling and would ask that others refrain from doing so.

I think you can contact state or federal agencies about this , might wanna try and give a call to a public school and find out if they know which of them can help you out on your questions.

Finally got an appointment with an ENT, but it's not for another month. It's already been 4- days of loud ringing in my left ear, substantial pain on left side of my neck and left side on the back of my head. Doctors here at the regular clinic put me on a couple different meds for a month that did absolutely nothing, then they told me there's nothing more they can do for me despite being in pain and my ear sounding like im underwater and ringing.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
Then three chiropractor appointments which also didn't help at all so i didn't go to the 4th. Been trying to get ahold of this ENT clinic out of town for a week and finally got an appointment set up. But its not til the 17th of July so I have to suffer all this shit for nearly another month.
  • RedColoredStars @ RedColoredStars:
I hope relief from all of this is on the way because I've felt so defeated and severaly lacking in sleep because of the pain and ringing.
