So I bought a PS3 Slim about 3 weeks ago. It's a CECH-2112A with the 40nm RSX and 45nm CELL.
First thing I did was play some games for about 2 hours. After just a short while the temp already jumped to 70C. So I set dynamic fan control in webman to 65C and 30% min.
This dropped the temperature significantly. It would stay around 60C for hours.
I later disassembled the PS3 (it was old and dirty. Unrelated but I also discovered a few missing screws and an almost-broken BD drive cable). I took the chance to change out the thermal paste, which seems to have mostly dried up (pic below). I changed it for Akasa ceramic compound (had to do it twice since my first spread was too thin). Also contemplated IHS removal for TIM replacement on the RSX, but couldn't work up the courage.

This did nothing. The temp stayed exactly the same. At least I managed to clean out the insides.
But I did find out that leaving the top cover out would drop the temp another few degrees.
Just the other day I found the crappy laptop cooling stand that they gave (along with a million other items) with my purchase. It has a 12cm 5V fan. So I decided to put that under the PS3, because why not? I tried to align it to where the hot components are...

Surprisingly, it helped drop about 2-3C. Now it's mostly 55-57C.
