I Hate School Clearances

I don't know if you guys in other countries have this, but here's what it is in case you don't know:
It's a thing every teacher on your school should sign, and if it's not complete, you won't be able to take the last examination for the school year. Sounds stupid right?

Well, I hate them. I very so much hate them. It's not bad, yes, but every time, the teachers will have to bring this up:

"HEY CLASS, GUESS WHAT, IF YOU DON'T *action* THEN WE WON'T SIGN YOUR CLEARANCE HARDY HAR HAR"

Yeah, that's annoying. Especially if you don't really like doing that.

For my case, swimming lessons. I HATE swimming lessons. As a guy with aqua phobia, students should not be forced to do swimming lessons. Swimming is not a thing for me, yet they keep saying "OH HEY YOU NEED TO SWIM YOU DUMB IDIOT OR ELSE I WON'T SIGN YOUR CLEARANCE"

They just keep ABUSING the power of the clearance, this should be prohibited because students will have to work extra hard just to get their clearances signed, but then they come up with another stupid action, and they will have to do that as well, and then another action, do that, action, do that, action, and so on and so forth.

They shouldn't remove this idea, it's a good concept, but the ABUSE of it is what should be removed. Doing this won't change anything, but I just want a place to rant about my problems.

At my school we have to do 40 hours of community service in order to graduate. Thankfully the teachers are really cool about it and gave me 40 hours just for helping them clean up their classrooms for 2 days.

That is seriously dumb, but you should learn how to swim. It's a life skill, as in it could save your life one day. It's also just useful. What if you are playing on the beach and your frisbee lands in the water. Are you going to leave it?

Sound stupid as fuck. I'm glad i already finished my school years.
Not that i want it to be applied here though.

I had to do community service when I was switched to the Catholic board. While I kinda get the point, there's a reason why it's one of the penalties that can be assigned to a criminal.

Our teachers have something similar. Basically if they enter an asterisk in the grade program (which means you didn't hand in an assignment) you're not allowed to go to next grade/take the exam. I only know of one teacher who abused it though (one of my friends got sick a lot during third grade* and as a result wasn't able to do any tests and she didn't allow him to retake those tests, causing him to fail).

The shitty bit comes when they can also choose to simply not enter a grade, which means that even though you didn't hand in your assignment, you can still move on to next grade. Most teachers actually do the latter thankfully.

*High school in our country consists of a certain number of grades, depending on the difficulty. This one had 6 grades. I'm currently in 5th grade, which is the final grade in my difficulty.

Clearance/clearing here usually refers to university spaces if you failed to get the ones you wanted, I imagine a bit stressful for those going through it but ultimately not too bad. Though when reading I thought you meant like house clearance but for school equipment, and I love raiding old lab and tech gear from such places.

Anyway the closest I ever got to any kind of mandatory classes that mattered was so called general studies when I was 16-17 (AS level if that matters). Was kind of a combination of basic English, maths (I was doing science and maths anyway) and a very watered down version of the logical argument parts of religious studies I had taken in the years prior. No university I saw accepted a result in it and it was one classroom lesson a week. I can imagine having the sorts of things you describe as a boot against your throat is kind of no fun though.
That said is there no dispensation you can get from a medic for this? Assuming you are not aiming to become a swimmer or something then you can probably get a nice note from a doctor that allows you to bypass it (dear school adminstrators, I am engaged in treating StandardForumGuy for recurrent aquaphobia. By compelling StandardForumGuy to undertake swimming as part of your schooling you are both causing mental anguish and lengthening the recovery and management process. If a physical activity is required to meet education standards I ask instead if it can be a non water related one. Yours sincerely Dr quack trick cyclist), might end up with you running laps or some nonsense instead but should allow you to dodge it. If you don't have a medic and are trying to treat it by yourself then it should not be too hard to sort one to get a note for this, maybe get a referral from your general practitioner (or whatever it is called around you).

That said I am drawn to wonder how much is actually them holding it over you and how much it is built up in the heads of students. Such systems usually have fairly strict codes of conduct whenever I have seen them, though pushing your students to do more is somewhat encouraged.
