Pokémon are demons?!

No. They're not.

So with the release of pokémon go, my parents have been hearing a lot more about pokemon. They believe that Pokémon are demons. That they're creatures made to show us what violence is. Like, what? Do you really believe the creators of Pokémon worship the devil and want to teach kids violence? What the actual fuck. That is one of the easiest arguments to debunk.

They literally have no other arguments. Even if they did, I'm sure they wouldn't be very watertight.

P.S.: they're pretty extreme Christians.

Show them that Pokemon are just like humans. Capable of love, changes in look and form (puberty), and the battles they have are just like boxing, it's not for violence, but for the competitiveness (and money).

Pokemon were thought to be demonic by Christians, due to evolution(s), back when the fad was starting. Religion seeks to silence just about anything that'll distract you from it, and it's absolutely horrifying at the excuses that they come up with.

The joke was on them when some of the parents (actually) watched the show and saw that the main content was about friendship.

In the 90's around here, people (even announcers in daytime TV channels!) used to say "Pokémon" meant "100 times greater than god" in japanese. Just a lot of bull----.

As the native language is Spanish, they couldn't easily see the "Pocket Monsters" combo in one word, and believed whatever those extreme catholics said. It wasn't because it was distracting, it was because it was japanese. Mexican catholics have always said Anime is bad. I feel bad for living here sometimes.

I never got to play a Game Boy (my parents didn't allow me to get one) because of those stupid things. So, my first console was the Nintendo DS, when I actually got enough money for getting the console myself.

Wanna know what's really demonic?
Religions.

They're so close-minded that they cannot give anything a chance that does not fit with their believes.
Show them an episode or two, tell them to not judge before seeing or experiencing for themselves.
The show itself is not about the creatures, but it actually touches quite some interesting points of friendship and well treatment of animals and the likes.

No one has the right to judge anything. And that goes to all religions who think they have a right to judge the others.

Maybe you can buy a nice book called Darwin's Theory of Evolution for them.
Then hope there are more open to Pokemon.

Meanwhile, you have both of my parents who're actually somewhat interested in Pokemon Go.

can someone remind me why religions exist again

It's just like the 90s.

When Pokemon was the hip and trending thing, of course there was a backlash of conservative-minded parents who believed that Pokemon were the agents of the devil himself.

Ever since Pokemon kinda faded into the background of pop culture, the aforementioned group began to hear less of it and moved on to different things. Now that Pokemon's the big thing again, these types of people are regurgitating the same argument they made in the 90s.

I am sorry to hear that but your parents are a christian hypocrisy.

I talked to my christian studies group about my concerned games and they are okay with it. They said as long as I am not violent or doing sickening things. And they said and those games are just games and they are playing the games too. So its fine. Nothing's wrong with that.
