Getting personal

Seems like making blogs is the cool thing to do lately, and I thought to myself, "Well, Chary, you've got about 20 other things you should be doing. But writing up a blog post at 5AM seems like the best course of action." so here I am. Since this is a gaming site, I ought to talk about how I got into playing video games, no? It all started in the wild days of the late 1990s (Yikes. Can't believe that some people on this planet are 16 years old, and never experienced the previous century. Scary.) when I got a Sega Genesis, and a copy of Sonic 2. And...that's it. Pretty simple, really; that game was the catalyst as to why I'm here right now, and though it sounds awkward, it's kinda shaped my life, honestly.

Who knew one single game could lead to collection like this?!
Yes this is an excuse for me to brag. lol

Hmm, what else to talk about? ...You ever wanted to know what my favorite games are? No?! Then let me tell you anyways.

... ... ...

After much thought, I've narrowed it down to; Animal Crossing, Persona 4, Steins;Gate, and Tales of the Abyss. That should give everyone a decent idea of what my tastes are, in regards to games. Can you tell I'm a total weaboo? If I had to name my absolute favorite console of all time, it'd be the PC platform Gamecube (SNES and PS2 trailing close behind). My favorite handheld would be...the Vita. Yeah, you heard right. :yaypsp: Hey...wait a minute, that's a PSP! You're telling me we have a Wii U emoticon, but no Vita?! How dare the site neglect this! I AM OUTRAGED! And by outraged, I mean I frowned ever-so-slightly, and continued on my spiel. ahem

Let's see, as for hobbies, since a young age, I'd always loved writing, heck, I was the crazy kid in school who LIKED being assigned essays. These days, if you browse the 'temp, you'll see I write official reviews for the site! Being a part of the magstaff is really something I enjoy, and I can see my writing getting better by the day. I promise not to brag about how awesome my reviews are, hehe. :D

Whew! Look at all that rambling. Had we all been face-to-face, I probably wouldn't have said more than a single sentence. Talk about disconnect. If you managed to pay attention the whole way through a blog about a random internet stranger, good job! (and thanks!) ;)

On the other hand, you will find some 16 years old who somehow experienced the 90s like me :P My first console was a NES for example.

My cousin's son (12 year old) likes the old school games and old consoles. The dad raised him well

Good old sonic 2. Kids these days won't fully understand what 'game over' really means. Not until you've made it to the death egg zone on your last life, no continues, no rings and take that final blow from metal sonic. I still have nightmares.

For someone who only has persona character avatars and always talk about persona, it kinda surprised me that you like sonic, but since you did make the post about the sonic 25 anniversary thing i shouldn't be surprised now. I guess since Sega's sonic and Atlus' persona games are now under one parent company that they should get along, so maybe is fate you like them both. :)

Now i have just one question.... DO YOU HAVE ONE OF THESE?

@Sonic Angel Knight Oh heck yes I remember having one of those. Despite turning my room upsidedown to find the old thing, the best I could find were some old Genesis carts (holy crap I have a lot of old stuff behind my shelves), like this one: http://imgur.com/LWrAYH8

I love Persona 4 and 3. Heck i just bought Persona 4 Golden and I don't even own a Vita. II'l buy one eventually.

Well you have a game genie so your a offical legit genesis player. Welcome to the family. :) :toot:
You must have a game genie to know what true retro classic gaming is and was back in the 1990's

If you don't have a game genie or know what one is, then you are not old enough. :creep:

Now tell me what your favorite game to use it on. Was is sonic or some other game? Super jump codes? Unlimited speed shoes? /

I never owned a Game Genie for any console (those were never sold in my country). But I can say I played a lot of games, and I'm sure I know what retro gaming is and was like.

Incredible collection, @Chary. I hope you've had a lot of fun with all of those games over the years!

I used a Game genie for getting extra lives in most games, when I couldn't beat them, haha! I had a Game genie for SNES, too, which I used to get imported games to play. My absolute favorite codes for the classic Sonic games weren't Game Genie related, but the old debug mode codes! Those were awesome.

I absolutely love cheat devices and they are one of my top priorities in collecting, I am not quite sure how many I have but the one I want the most is Game Genie for NES and everyone I have come across has looked like complete ass... I am talking green corroded contacts and peeled off stickers and usually for some reason a corner missing from the case itself... In other words I would feel dirty just looking at the thing let alone buying it... But I have them for most other systems. I also don't have one for the C64 or Amiga :(

The ironic part is, save for a few games that where either good enough to want to finish but too tough to do so with out killing some one out of frustration or just added fun I barely used the things. I guess I just like the option.
