Katsukity's GameDirectShop

I always thought my first blog would be about something positive, but today, I received a reply to an inquiry I sent to the shop mentioned above and I just had the biggest urge to rant about it.

Long story short, I ordered a JPN N3DS with a Capture Kit installed 3 weeks ago, and today I decided to ask them how it was progressing as I haven't heard from them since. This was their reply:
Hello Kinqdra (of course, my real name was here),

Thank you for your inquiry.

We apologize for the delay. Your order is on the waiting list for the assembly.

We have received an increasing number of orders and each capture kit is assembled manually. Currently, it takes about four months to ship items after we receive orders. We assemble the capture kits in order that we received. We deeply apologize for the waiting time.

If you wish to receive your order in a hurry, we are offering an express shipping service for an additional $200 USD. If you are interested, please let us know. We will send a Paypal request for the express service fee. Once the payment is confirmed, we will send your order as soon as we can.

We use an international express shipping. Once your item has been shipped, you should be able to receive it in a week or so.

We will send you a notification message with a tracking number when we ship your order.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and if there is anything else we can help you with, please ask.

If you have any further questions, I'd be happy to answer them.

Kind regards,

Now I understand this might not be that "shocking" to some of you guys, but it's the first time I've ever experienced something like this. I mean come on, I think that fact could've been mentioned before the order transaction was complete. Plus this $200 for express service is bullshit. So now I have to pay extra money because of their incapability of providing it in the expected time. What a joke.

And if they really do have such high traffic, couldn't they hire extra people to offer better service? I understand that they practically have a monopoly in that specific market but it doesn't mean they have to act like a bunch of sticky merkins.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts on this whole situation. Things might have come out a little harsher as I was really looking forward to spend a part of my summer recording 3DS gameplay videos... Other than that, the rest of their service was pretty solid: they replied quickly to my inquires and apparently provide a decent build quality, though I can't confirm that yet.
What are your thoughts on this? Have you had any experience with them in the past? Are you also still waiting on your order to be assembled?

Thanks for reading and I hope this gives a better insight on what to expect when ordering from them.

Woah. I've heard that the quality that these guys put out is exceptional, but holy cow, that's a long time to wait. And $200 express? Jeez. Well this is good to know, so I don't get screwed over if I order from them during Christmas and have to wait until Spring. Thanks.

Oh wow, and here I was planning on sending my 3DS over to have it installed. I'll pass then.

If you plan on ordering, definitely ask them if the waiting list has gotten any shorter before you do. I've read some users waiting up to 6 months, while other report waiting less than a month depending on when they made the order. Unfortunately, I found out about those reports after already having ordered..

i guess it comes down to supply and demand, keep supplies low and demand high and you can charge lots, if they just made loads of the kits and allowed third party installers it might devalue their product (personally i would just grab a n3ds and use NTR CFW :P)

4 months its gone down then the waiting list was 9 months back in January and even then theirs people who have so many problems and had to send them back for repairs on twitch i know of smkgaming adrive myself jayytgamer himtwit nappy who have had to send them back for repairs due to there shoddy soldering and in some cases there have been people who sent there consoles back to katsukity paid the fee for it being fixed andgot there console with capture card sent back saying there's nothing wrong with the device yet fails to work on any pc/mac.

there was another twitch streamer who goes by the name of dashmagnum010 he had a friend visit japan so he had his friend make an appointment they fitted the capture card there and then but failed to give the product key for the viewer software he had to pay another $100 for the key for his device that he had already paid for

if in Europe id say go with http://www.merki.net/?page_id=101

or US go with http://www.3dscapture.com this is neils capature card also know as loopy

yes site looks all kinds of messed up but it is legit i just ordered my 2nd back up from them just incase my katsukrappy fails on me again

The supply can be kept low, but not 4 months of waiting low. To me that's just ridiculous. I also looked into NTR but I just had the extra cash and wanted to get something more convenient. Didn't end up that way though..

idk exactly how they are doing things, but 4 months can either suggest they are using hard to source parts, only buying small batches of capture cards to minimize financial risks or they are just so busy and receive hundreds of orders a week, although personally i couldn't imagine them selling more than 10-30 a month

my bets is they may even be getting them to order rather than having a bunch in stock waiting based on the 4-9 month waiting times, as installation itself shouldn't be any more than a hour or 2 from what i have seen

@evo25.1 9 months?!? WTH are they doing that long? How can you allow a customer to wait 9 months for something while not mentioning it prior to payment and still get away with it? Wow.
I also looked into those but none of them do N3DS, only O3DS and I already have one of those.

I got mine late 2014 and it only had a month wait. My friend, on the other hand, had to wait six months for his, and it was only that quick because he was asking about his order and saying he'd go elsewhere. Their work in my experience has been great. I have two of their systems (O3DS w/ Circle Pad Pro Supported & O3DS XL) and both have been great, though I've heard a few bad stories. Anyway, here's hoping you get your system before long and it all functions well. If you need a hand with any of it, feel free to PM me o/

9 months wait. I may as well get the pieces and have a temper do the work and pay em. sheesh.

Id say to not give them your business... There's no way this hardware is worth the obnoxious prices. Regardless of where the installation takes place. Not to mention... $100... For a key to the software? Seriously?

It just sucks that nobody does it closer to home.
