Hundshamer's Hard Mod

On February 24, 2016, I attempted to install arm9 loader hax on my o3ds. It went well until actually installing it. I'm not sure what went wrong (I suspect the NAND restore that happened without the tool or the recommended guide at the time telling me about). Whatever the case, I got a blue-screen brick. Unrecoverable without a hard mod. So I ask @hundshamer to do it. He replied pretty quickly, saying he charges $25 for a restore or $40 for a hard mod (not too long after I saw reports of $50) plus $7 return shipping (plus the $6.80 it took for me to ship it). He also said his usual turnaround was 3 weeks. It seemed like a good deal at the time: $54 + 3 weeks to revive a console I killed. And so, I sent my 3DS in the mail and used Google Wallet to give him the $47. He confirmed he recieved my 3DS just two days later, on February 26, 2016.

During the 3 weeks, I would occasionally ask how it was coming.

Sorry to bother you. Judging by your profile messages, you're getting a lot of business.

You said your turnaround has been about 3 weeks, so does that mean you expect to have my 3DS to be finished on the 18th, or do you not know for sure yet?

hundshamer said:
I plan on sooner. I have a week without work, and my wife is going out of town with her mom to visit family. I have to get up early all week too, so I can get the kids off to school. I plan on clearing up my backlog, and shortening my turnaround. I had a move, surgery, and a new job, put me behind. That week will help me bring it back down to a week if at all possible.

If you finish it before March 15th, could you send it to this address:

I'm going to be out of town for a week, and if it's sent to the address I included with my 3DS when I'm not able to get to it, it'll drive me crazy.

I can understand that you're busy, but it's been 5 weeks, and I'd like to know if you have an ETA on my 3DS. If not, could you tell me about how many 3DS's are in front of mine in line, and how many you complete per day/week?

It is 3rd in line.

And now he hasn't even read my PMs, including an important one. On April 25, 2016, I gave him a different address to ship to, and he hasn't read it yet. Since then he's been posting exclusively on his profile page, giving vague updates that we're not entirely convinced are true anymore. The evidence seems to indicate he's been lying.

I have likely waited the longest and I can not be any more infuriated at the stalled progress. As of Feb 3rd 2016, hundshamer has held my 3DS hostage. He promised on multiple times that its complete and ship the following Monday. This went on for weeks on end. I have tried to give him the benefit of the doubt many times, but in the end, this shows carelessness and disregard on his part.

The only indication that anyone's actually received theirs back is @breakingspell.

Reporting in, I shipped two consoles on March 12th and paid extra to have one of them done within a week. I finally received them back on April 23rd, and we negotiated a partial refund. Our guy did follow through in the end, but it was not a pleasant transaction in the least, probably one of the last times I do business without conducting research first.
breakingspell said:
Something compels me to keep returning to hundshamer's page to see how much worse this has gotten. I can confirm that in a Skype conversation with hunds, he pointed out that the only reason my consoles shipped that day was because I'd paid extra, but they'd supposedly been done for at least 2 weeks before that. A lot of his stories didn't add up, they became a trickle of excuses.
breakingspell said:
Hunds did deliver in the end, but that's after I'd filed a claim against the Google Wallet payment I'd sent. I'd advise doing the same, especially people that have been waiting since February, this is ridiculous.

I do have a few done, and will try to add to that before I go to the post office on Monday. Thanks for the support.
However, he hasn't been online since Sunday, May 8 at 12pm, so either he doesn't plan on telling anyone he's sent their 3DS's, or he's flat out lying.

I suppose I can give him another week or two. After all, as of May 3rd:

I did say that I am busy with finals too, yes? Sometimes the wrong bookmark gets clicked. I am not answering personal PM ATM. I am not accepting new orders yet either. I am not trying to be rude, but if you knew how many PM's I have right now. Most of them are can you do a mod or is my mod done yet. I am working on them as I can. Finals are next week, and they are taking precedence as of right now.

If the underlined bit is true, that makes his exams this week. However, more communication would be nice. In order to respond (or at least read his customers' PMs), it would take, what, an hour?

Anyway, hopefully this documents most of the troubles his customers are going through. Waiting over 11 weeks (7 more than initially indicated) for mods to be completed, and being kept in the dark.

@dhall243 it's like baking pancakes. the first one is the tricky one. afterwards its smooth sailing.

My 3DS was never bricked in the first place. I just wanted a hardmod for safety and because 10.5 was unable to be downgraded outside of a hardmod at the time. I understand he can be busy and with the backlog. My only issue has ever been that some of his communication has been dishonest in an attempt to quell the masses. If he would have been more upfront about how many systems he had actually finished, I never would have had an issue. My issue is with the reports of him telling people theirs were done and would ship the next day and then 3-4 weeks went by without a word and no system.

unique you should go ahead and send this to the mods that way there won't be other victims.

I'd say give him til the end of next week, since he said he had finals this week. If any other issues come up though, I would definitely do something.

The mods probably can't do much. I don't think he should be banned from the forums, but depending on how the next few weeks go, maybe ban him from doing hard mods? Depending on how widespread this information becomes, the mods probably won't have to do a thing to make that happen.

@uniquegeek if he doesnt return everyones n3ds he is stealing potentially over 1000$+ in electronics. People get banned for much sillier things.

I'm a past customer of hundshamer and this is pretty spot on for the time it takes.

I accidently updated my 3DS (back before downgrades came) and it took 2 months for it to come back.
I messaged him every one or two weeks since I was impatient and he only responded sometimes.
Turns out the Home Button and Start/Select didn't work. He offered to fix it if I send it back for free. Told him it was okay and continued my time.

Due to some prodding from some people I know, I asked him if offer was still valid about 3 or 4 months later. It was and I sent it, took 5 weeks this time.
Everything was fixed, got a weird slip of paper that said CherryPie. Got a small chuckle.

All in all, I would still recommend him to people because he does a pretty good job but expect very, very VERY LONG wait times.
It really is a test of how much patience you have and I failed it several times during it.

I am very much aware of his his work, family, and school life so I don't blame him at all.

@cheesecake as a customer his personal life is honestly not your problem. He is providing a service here,at this point he is apparently dodging PM's. Imagine if you took your car to get repaired and the mechanic told you he had other priorities in his life, would you be happy? I could understand if he was doing this for free, but he isn't.

@funnystory
He fulfilled his end of the bargain twice.
Also I was pretty discontent during the waiting but he does do it in the end.

No hate on him, but we seriously need more hard modders. It's insane that only 2 people on this whole forum are known for doing hardmods, well, to my knowledge. But, what do I know, I don't do hardmods.

If he gets banned, it would make it harder to communicate in the event he decides to. I did, however, report him using the link on his profile, so the mods should see all of tgis soon.

Since he said his finals were this week, I think it'd be better to just let this week finish and see if anything happens. I actually have finals this coming week and it's super stressful, so I can sort of understand.

@UniqueGeek the fact that he has exams is irrelevant to his loyal customers, you deserve prompt response and answers. The thing that makes me sick about this whole process is that if I bricked my a9lh(which I didnt) I would have been in the same position as you.

I did some business with Hundshamer, took 3 months (Dec 2015 - March 2016) to get my 3DS fixed from what was a mobo swap I tried doing on my own. The reason it took so long was because the charge port was not working on the board I wanted so understandably that had to be fixed. However he broke the volume slider when it arrived back at me and the charge port was still broken. We had a total of 4 round-trip shipping for this one order and each time I had to pay the shipping to go back to him just because he didn't bother to check the work the first time around. He never did fix the volume slider which he broke and I was so frustrated from all the shipping I spent and time waiting I ended up going to a cell phone repair store to get it done.

If anyone needs 3DS repair go to a cell phone repair shop instead, I'd rate this service 2/10. Nice guy but bad repairman.

OP, this is a brief of my experience with him. Sent my 3DS to him on November 10th, 2015 (arrived November 12th, 2015) got it back a month later ~December 13th (he said turnaround time was a week and a half...). The 3DS couldn't be read by the computer, so I asked him for help and he said he would send another adapter. I waited a week. No adapter. Asked him again, he said he will send another one. Again, no adapter. After waiting a month I got fed up and asked him to send it priority, but then changed my mind and decided to send back the 3DS to him since I had to pay for return shipping anyway (though it's not MY fault the wire came loose, now is it?). Apparently a wire had come loose during shipping (which means faulty work to me), so I had to send it back to him. I sent it back to him January 18th, 2016 and got it back February 3rd, 2016 (wow, he actually lived up to his turnaround time!).... missing the SD adapter. He claimed to send it several times but I never received anything until he shipped it priority. I'm glad I got the 3DS hardmodded BUT I am extremely hesitant to use his service again for my new 3DS, as each time he responded it was very short and borderline rude. I also can't recommend him for doing high quality work because of the issue I faced (with the wire coming loose) so there's that.

Edit: I forgot to mention, the first time I received the console back it smelled like smoke. Not smoke from being near soldering materials, but f*cking cigarette smoke.

Honesty would work better than silence. Silence has already lead to multiple Google Wallet disputes.

Dude what irritates me about this is that people keep recommending hundshammer, this guy should banned in all honesty. Breaking peoples n3ds,sending n3ds with faulty wires, this is bullshit! The guy has 10 members n3ds at his smoke filled house while he went missing. The guy is rude to his customers? Are you fucking kidding me? What an outrage, what pisses me off is that this could have been me and I would have been forced to drive to his house to retrieve my console.

Ive done business with Hund in the past, shortly before the N3ds came out. He got it, worked it, and sent it back no issues. This is weird to read about someone I had a good experience with. I recently bricked one of my N3DS's and I tried to contact Hund, but he never even looked at it. Looking at his profile at the time, I could see he was overwhelmed, so I went with another US helper, vb_encryption_vb, and it was a great experience. I recommend him, he's awesome. (uh, for anyone reading this, obviously not those who don't even have their systems T_T)
