Why I stopped waiting and updated my 3DS

First of all, I nabbed a 4.4 3DS XL during the holidays. I immediately went to see if there were any flashcarts available. Long story short, found out about gateway but didnt want to pay $80 for it so I never bought it. Fast forward to the revelations of the Gateway Brick incidents (which everyone here fervently denied) I decided to stay away from Gateway and watch the MT card. Nothing developed and I was tired of having my 3DS but not being able to play anything. It was when Nintendo offered the Four Swords promotion that was the tipping point in getting me to update. I didn't want to be some slave to an unknown overseas company. So after updating, I decided it was just not worth it to wait. Nintendo has covered their bases so far and I commend them on that. I usually like to mod or get a flashcart to avoid paying for games. Now that I've updated, I've gotten to enjoy plenty of eshop titles (all bought during price drops) and whatever 3DS game I get, its either used or below $20. And it feels great. This is just an anecdote to those still waiting like I was. Updating and being able to enjoy your 3DS at 100% isn't a bad thing, being held hostage at the expense of an unknown overseas company with shady business practices is.

Awesome story I've seen the light now I'm going to update my 3ds and kiss gateway goodbye thx you for showing me the way

Might as well be, nothing ever else is going on except users complaining about bricked consoles. Excellent job on considering the alternative to supporting companies that destroy user hardware.

Good for you, I mean what else do you want us to say.
Not really looking for praise or anything. Just trying to let those on the fence about updating that I've had satisfaction in doing so.

Dont mention it! :yaysp:

Cool story bro.

You know you could have used emunand and enjoy almost all the latest features while still having the option for a flash cart? LOL

Except you know, the whole part where devices are being bricked left and right. I sincerely doubt that emunand will be sustainable forever. Like I said, your device is being held at the whim a company who has already damaged their reputation. How and why they are getting the continued support is beyond my comprehension.

Sounds more like you're just too lazy/incompetent to actually keep up with what's going on, so you decided to just say "screw it" and update. Now you're just trying to convince everyone it's for other reasons, to make yourself feel better perhaps? I don't know, but congratulations on taking a somewhat valuable device and making it average. I hope you were smart enough to at least make a NAND backup in case you ever change your mind, but you were probably afraid that doing so with 2.0b1 will cause a brick.

I am not trying to make myself better. I love modifying consoles (I've done so with almost each one that I've gotten), anything to avoid paying for games! What Im trying to do is create a conversation in which those who are on the fence realize that updating can benefit them more that waiting and not getting the most out of their console. I doubt that gateway and its exploits will be able to stick around for the duration of the 3DS's life. What happens when and if they drop support? What happens if Nintendo discovers a way to prevent emunand for going past 7.0? These are things to think about and I'm just trying to create the dialogue to talk about it with my own experience. Instead im getting diehard Gateway supporters that will ignore all the inherent dangers of supporting them. I am not trying to reach out to you guys, Im trying to talk to those (if any) are seriously considering updating.

This is what bored me to death with my friends who had or still have portable consoles, In my case one has a PSP and the
other a DS & 3DS.

I spent weeks to learn everything about my psp be it CFW, patches, workarounds, fixes, etc... Now I'm quite satisfied I did
because I no longer am terrified or praying to god or budda that my portable might get bricked.

My friends on the other hand started coming to me for the most minimal things since they were utterly paranoid, "Patch this,
Update this game, Can you rip me this iso?, Put these plugins in the MS, Please crack me this game".

That's when I got pissed to death and screamed out loud "Fuq you guys!", I mean... If they bought a console knowing they
where going to just pirate and download stuff and didn't even bother to learn how to handle their own console they should
not have bought it.

As for the gateway incident about brick festa 24/7... There are things called "Marketing Strategy" you know? Making your enemy
look bad by forcing them to do certain things that you know will cause turmoil around the consumer base... The clone competition
just did that, So that those who are lazy to keep up with news in the scene get ripped off for their ignorance...

You're giving bad advice, because you can do pretty much everything right now on emuNAND. You're talking in what if's, which is ridiculous. What if CFW comes out tomorrow? What if Gateway's multi-rom comes out tomorrow with no brick code? What if MT-card released their update? What if emunand keeps getting updated?

Not to mention the process is terribly easy and fast if you only follow instructions and are patient, I have set up many of
my friends 3DS's ready to use their gateway's and told them everything there is to know on how to handle them, Of course
I charged them so that they actually think twice before doing anything.

Anyway they finally put their brains to good use and after months none of them have told me of any bricks and they are
really heavy gamers... So you are my friend... Just super paranoid and inpatient...

Wow, attacking a 3DS user because he doesn't want to support a shitty overrated product and use it for legit purposes. That was thoughtful.

well, if you are in united states and you could access 3ds games which are the cheapest, you don't really have reasons to use gateway other than using it to make it region free. me in the other hand, because the game price is imported and more expensive than states, I kinda have some sort of justification. the games are not available, etc etc. since I moved to NZ, my 3DS cannot play any of pal region games, and the price is like twice of the states. sometimes I cannot believe how ridiculous region locking is.

still, I'm eyeing for discounted games in play asia though, I will definitely buy the games I really like when they have price drop.

Who cares i only buy my 3DS to Play Kingdom Hearts and Project Mirai.. and i already done its purpose using Gateway..
So why should i update?? To access eShop? lol... :rofl2::rofl2::rofl2:

I can't even play Project Mirai if i update my 3DS...

I've been thinking for a while I would have been better off going legit on my 3DS. I've played most 9/10 3DS games and the only two I've liked are Donkey Kong Country Returns (which I've finished and quit playing) and Mario Kart 7. So now that I only play Mario Kart 7 I think I would have been better off buying a legit copy so I could play online.

With that said I still haven't played Zelda or Bravely Default since I'm afraid I might brick my 3DS. I refuse to play online with emuNAND for the same reason.

You know what forum you're on? Let me tell you since apparently you don't realize. 3DS - Hacking & Homebrew HACKING

He's basically saying I have a 3DS that could get hacked but screw it it's too much work to keep up with everything and Gateway's terrible blablabla. No one is even telling him to get a Gateway, just that he could have used their firmware.

Now if some new flash cart comes out or homebrew comes out he's out of luck. All because of the "hassle".

And your changed viewpoint is hilarious. A few months ago every post that came out of you was you whining about Gateway not supporting past 4.5 and how you couldn't afford a new 3DS blablabla. Every single post. Then as soon as the Gateway fiasco occurred "Glad I didn't buy this POS" as if you could anyway.
