Is the global economic crisis affecting you yet?

I've been reading more and more about how this craziness is personally affecting people, the lifestyle changes people are making and what to do to cope financially. It sucks, but it seems to be the reality for the foreseeable future and it started with greedy bankers (The US Federal Reserve) that we are all paying for.

Yep, it is.. I was thinking about creating a topic about this over here even :P

The USD currency had a huge jump in one week.. some days ago 1USD was costing 1.60BRL , now it's 2.30BRL, I was thinking about getting a PS3 by the end of the year.. now, no way :P

Most of the electronics we have over here are imported, or at least are made with imported parts, the USD currency affects all of those, and since I'm a geek and like to buy those things, this crisis is affecting me a lot :(

Nope its not really affecting my family so far. I was scared of it at first but now I am just interested in it because I think once the DOW hits its lowest (around 5000 I am going to guess) I think people will start buying stocks. If you think about it if you buy the stocks when they are low they will gradually increase in value and maybe many people might do this. I think this should be taken care of by the citizens and government because the government can get us out of everything. If people don't start buying stocks we are just going to fall even more.

Thats just my belief.

The skills possessed by my family and I tend to be of the "ability to fix things" or the "ability to build new things from base materials", unlike certain aspects of paper pushing it seems humanity will always need that.

That and nobody has/uses a credit card or loans (aside from UK student loans (interest=inflation more or less) and otherwise stable/affordable mortgages) among us.

Personally I hope it gets much worse, unfortunately it seems only actual experience counts for anything and with the absence of anything drastic in the living/retained memory of most......

Pretty much the same, except for the student loans/mortgages part.

My family is still getting by quite easily.

We have it double down here in Spain. We're going through the same thing as Germany or France have gone through in the last 30 years (a very important part of our economy based on building a LOT, like, more houses than people to inhabitate them, and now we're fucked up cause the whole bussiness crashed and people's only skills are stocking one brick onto another, which affects the few others with other skills). Governments are idiotic frantic make-as-much-money-as-you-can assholes, and now that we've killed the gold eggs hen, we're fucked up. Well, it's people¡s fault anyway for voting a stupid windows paint logo instead of ideas, so fuck them hard 'til they bother thinking further than "teh more muneez, teh more goodz!!!".

So, it's kinda annoying reading people say they hope it turns even worse.

Nope food is a lot cheaper now as the supermarkets are trying to cash in on this "credit crunch" tagline, so that at least levels out the many fuel increases.

Same as ever for me, its just the media making a fuss.

And our president keeps saying that we won't feel the crisis :glare:
Well, it's not affecting me so much because i was already broken when it started...
I guess we'll have an imagination Christmas this year.

In a way it has for me, but not even comparable to the poorness I lived in when I first came to America.

It's funny that although the US is at the center of this crisis, its citizens are not the most affected...

Perhaps it started with them, but people who took loans/mortgages they could not afford also have some of the blame.

indeed
alot of the people who got mortgages know they didnt have the money but got big ones just because they where available
can also be placed on bill clinton for signing that bill 1997 to lower the bar on mortgages and loans so people with not alot of money could get them, and basically thats where it took off from, now 11 years later we are getting the consequences of that bill
