College were already opened for applications since the 1st of this month, and I have yet to apply to one. To add that, I still have to write my college essays(2 prompts). I know that I won't be able to make it to a University( I have a very slim chance of being accepted...), but I'm still going to apply to one anyways. Most likely, I'll go to a state college that's pretty close by where I live. If all else fails... I'll go to a city college and work my way up. But I know for sure that I am going to be accepted into a state college. The only thing that worries me the most is the class sizes. From the stories I hear, some classes are so packed that some students have to sit on the ground during class. OR, that instead of the usual "2-year of state and then transfer to a UC", many students take up to 3-4 years to finish because there are not enough room for the classes. Also, I'm worried about the cost of going to college. Many people say, "That's what financial aid, grant, and scholarships are for.", but all those resource can only help so much. Over here( in California) one year in a UC costs about $20,000-$25,000. Not to mention the tough competition for UC, which is why many students I know choose to go to a state college than a UC. Which racks up the student count in classes, which causes more students to finish state college in 3-4 years instead of the regular 2.
My highschool has a program called "P.A.C.E" (I'm not in it by the way...) and most of the students are most likely going to apply to a UC. Those kids are the "over-achiever" kids that does really well in school, able to balance volunteer work, clubs, and sports, come from a "wealthy" background. Which is the reason why I think I most likely won't get accepted in a UC. Which is what the college essay is for, to ignore all GPAs, academic activities, and such, and allow a person to tell the college why they are unique.
Arrg... applying for colleges sucks... too much stress, and too many things to factor in when I apply for them. A major downside of being a senior in highschool.
