My first blog post.. about SSBB, I know that are a lot of old topics about that on the Wii forums but I didn't want to bump some old threads to express my personal opinions.. thought this would be a better place.
Well, after practically everyone at GBATemp, I finally had the chance to play SSBB. Went to Paraguay yesterday (games are a lot cheaper there
) and bought it..
Now, I was never much into SSB, played the N64 version only on emulators and played Melee 2 or 3 times at some friends house.. decided to buy this one to see what the fuzz was all about (and I have finished all my Wii games anyway, needed something now).
I won't enter in details about the game cause everyone played it by now, but I'm liking it.. and I found out that I liked stuff in the game that most Smash Bros fans didn't.. first, the controls.. I'm really enjoying using the Wiimote only thing.. tried the GC and the Wiimote+nunchuck mode and the Wiimote alone is definitely my favorite! I saw a lot of people bashing it, most Melee players saying that the GC was the best, etc.. I feel like playing a SNES/Genesis game with it.. just a D-Pad and 2 buttons (I know there are more buttons), and I love this feeling! Damn I'm old -_-
Second, I'm liking the Story mode, which I also saw a lot of people complaining about. It's a nice Platform/Beat-em-up game with an "old-school" felling. Been sometime since I played something like that. This + the "NES" type control + hearing the Donkey Kong Country songs brought me some good nostalgic feelings
It's weird how this game completely ignores the Wii controls, even the menus, mini-games, map builder, etc.. seriously, after playing some Wii games, I got used to just point at the menu items and choose whatever I want.. why couldn't even this be done!? It's a Wii game dammit! The map building, positioning the stickers, choosing the characters.. would be much more comfortable with that IMO. And about that I saw no one complaining, guess I'm the only person using the Wiimote after all
