BB Coding V.S. Markdown

Markdown is dumb, BBCode makes a lot more sense to me...

Smilies/emoticons/whatever they are... I don't like them, never use them (if you see one it is more an accident if I am using a colon in something), actually have them on adblock (makes certain posts odd) so don't consider that a positive. Indeed they would be fourth on the list of things I get rid of were I in charge after likes, post counts and levels.

Took a look at the markdown markup stuff. I have learned bbcode this last however many years so it mostly does what I want it to but from an coding language aesthetic perspective the markdown stuff is cleaner, if harder to strip or convert* with an automated tool.
If I were to investigate such things it would probably to go the other way and add tex style markup for equations and tables, though I am not sure how useful it would be around here.

*I know you could just render it and copy that out but I was thinking more a chain of regex filters.

I'm not against either; I just prefer Markdown.

I'm used to BB code more than the other kinds, heh
