I met Beth at the light rail at 7:20ish today. She was wearing white pants with a thin white top. We got in the light rail discussing about our history final and our other finals. When we got onto the second light rail train, I spotted something black “stuff” (like some black sticky tar) on Beth’s white pants. Come to find out, Beth somehow got that black “stuff” on her bag and then the bag touched her white pants. Beth was pretty upset about the whole thing. I came prepared for something like this, and I gave the kid a RedBull to cheer her up. Needless to say, Beth was cheered up, but she needed to clean her pants and bag. We hit the food court and Beth heads to the bathroom to clean up. I take out studying material and study for a bit until Beth comes out. Brandon meets up with us while we study around 8:30ish. Brandon sits there and just plays with his phone and chips in an answer every now and then. I’m drilling the questions and answers to Beth (45 topics to cover on the study guide and I went over all 45 of them 3 times with Beth). When 10ish arrived, I figured that Beth got most of the material. Brandon… I offered to test him, but all he says is “Make me” so I don’t even bother (but I truly tried though… he just wouldn’t budge…). We get into the classroom around 10ish and it’s already filled up. We sit next to each other (somewhere in the back) and wait for the test. 10:15ish and the test is passed out. I work at Beth’s pace on the test (so I can “help” her out). We both finish 15ish minutes after the test is handed out. Beth leaves first and then I leave after counting that 5 people have finished after Beth. We meet up at the food court and wait for Brandon. We discuss how easy the test was and I tell her that history was never a worry to me (but not for Beth). Brandon comes out after 15ish minutes after us and we eat. We decide to head outside and play cards at the same table. I text Michelle to tell her that I’m already done with my history final and that I’m ready to take our online Philo final together. Michelle tells me that she’ll get here around 12ish. Meanwhile, Beth, Brandon, and I just play cards. Michelle calls me and I head out for the library around 12ish. I’m at the library door and I see Michelle (but she doesn’t see me). I follow closely behind her, trying to not make her see me. She goes up the stairs quickly and I keep following her. Only at the door of the second floor does Michelle notice me. We settle at a computer (for me because Michelle brought her laptop). I ask her about her English project and Michelle tells me that she’s almost done. We get started on the Philo final. I take the test first (for about 50ish minutes) and Michelle sits next to me, helping me with my questions. After the test, out of the 34 questions, I only miss 5 or 6 (which is great considering how I did on the midterm… 66%... BUT Michelle got a 83% and that’s all that matters). Michelle takes it after me and finishes in 20ish minutes with almost all the answers right (she only made 3 answers wrong). While taking the test, Beth texts me that Brandon is taking her home. I tell her that it’s cool with me. After the test, I tell Michelle that I’m going to head out on the light rail because Beth and Brandon already left. I was REALLY about to head out early, but Beth texts me “Look behind you” and there those dumbasses were... behind me after all. Beth and Brandon settle on a table to play cards and I walk Michelle out to her car. Michelle and I discuss about how easy our Philo final was and how we dreaded that class every session. We make plans about our ice cream date tomorrow and she leaves. I come back to Beth and Brandon around 2ish and we just play cards around 3ish and Brandon heads out. Beth and I head outside and wait for her ride. We talk about random stuff like always. Beth gets a message on her phone that the history finals are already up (that’s quick…). Come to find out, Beth got a 48/50 (YAY!!) and I got a 46/50. Beth is greatly relieved about her grade and I just keep telling her how proud I am of her. We talk about her math final tomorrow and how Beth has to study right when we get to school. We also talk about her classes next semester and I tell her that I can always help her over Skype or something on her online classes. We discuss about Brandon and I mention that maybe Beth will be the one that sets Brandon straight next semester (because they’re both taking the same classes). Beth leaves around 3:40ish and I head to the library to wait for my ride. I leave around 6ish.
Today was a great day. I can say that I am finally done with school. History was easy; I truly had no worries about that class. Ever since from the start, I knew that history was going to be my easiest class because of how the teaching material was taught. I’m the type of person that rather read the textbook and listens to lectures to learn (which was history). And when Michelle and I took our Philo final… and I saw how well I did, gosh am I lucky… From doing pretty bad on the midterm to extremely well on the final, I’m pretty content with my grade in Philo. I’m so glad that I was able to offer Michelle my help so that she could get a better grade than me. I’m also glad that Beth did better than me on the history final. Just goes to show that maybe those two kids are growing up and are going to be okay without me. I’m really really extremely happy for Beth and Michelle on how well our finals went. It’s like a large weight of burden has been lifted off my shoulders. Although it wasn’t a slow day like yesterday, we did get to play cards and such. Today was great, and I’m glad that it was great. I’m extremely happy that Beth got a good grade on her final and a good grade overall in the class (she has a 86% and I have a flat 90%). I’m also extremely happy that I did pretty well on the Philo final and that Michelle did better than me. What a great day. I cannot express how content I am right now, knowing that I did my best to get those two kids the grades that they got. I’m just happy that I was always able to lend my hand when they needed it and that the outcome of my help paid off for them.
But what bothers me is how Brandon refused to study with me and Beth (despite him knowing some stuff on the study guide). It’s like the guy doesn’t bother to put any effort to do well. The only time I see him work is when the deadline is close and he scrambles to get his act together. I’ve already told Beth (and Michelle) that I offer my “full” assistance when the person that I help really wants to be help and improve themselves (like Beth and Michelle). Unlike Brandon (and Tamer), people like them… I help half-heartily because they choose to not help themselves. But it’s not like I abandon them altogether. I insist and “force” them to study, but they just struggle back and I just tell them “Well, you are your own man.”. I don’t want to do that to Brandon, but the guy doesn’t even help himself, so how am I supposed to help him?? Well, that’s not going to be my problem anymore. I hope that Brandon changes his act before he realizes that it’s too late. And I hope that he doesn’t influence or interfere with Beth’s studies. Beth needs someone to sit her down and make her study (like me, who forces the kid to stick her nose in her notes/books). But, that’s not Brandon. The guy doesn’t even bother to study himself so how is he going to study with Beth. This worries me, but it’s something that I can change.
