Hi, I've seen a lot of thread asking if it was possible to run DS games on 3DS with the use of a DS linker, from the menu, like a DSiware eshop app or GBA ambassador VC.

here's what I stumbled upon today :
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance_Wars:_Days_of_Ruin

A Japanese release was announced under the title of Famicom Wars DS: Ushinawareta Hikari(ファミコンウォーズDS 失われた光?), but was canceled after several delays. However, on October 30, 2013, it became available in Japan through Club Nintendo as a downloadable platinum status reward for the Nintendo 3DS system.

I then thought, maybe it's a DSi compatible game so they did a DSiware special release... but I checked and the game came out before the DSi was out. (also thr game is too big for the hardcodded biggest DSi size)

some more info
https://m.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/1piu6f/advance_wars_days_of_ruin_is_the_first_nintendo/

Maybe there's a size limit but I think games that are the same size or smaller than this could also work..

Btw, the same thing just happened again with the my nintendo reward program and WarioWare Touched is available for japanese 3DS.
(I really hope someone will dump it and experiement with it)

So there it is.

What do you guys think?

And sorry if this has been brought up before.

did anyone ever dumped the cia and extracted it?

We tried, no luck.

Someone should look and see what exactly is changed between the Advance Wars Day of Ruin NA ROM and DSiWare Japan release, and WarioWare Touched JP ROM and DSiWare Japan release, though. That may help.

@astronautlevel I see.
Isn't there a size limit for DSiWare? isn't Advance Wars above that?
Out of curiosity did you guys try to inject it on a DSi and run it?

@dpad_5678 I don't see how that's relevant to the discussion.

Sorry, but the first post is incorrect.

Advance Wars DSiWare is programmed to read from the NAND, therefore it reads from the NAND.

And before it is again suggested that you can: you can't just snap your fingers make to make a game read from the NAND.

The bigger problem is that it's just a DS game compiled as DSiWare, which we can't do without the source.

oh ok So tell me how did they succeed in making gba rom injection (not arguing with U I am really asking how did they accomplish this)
Unlike the DS game, which is just the source code of the DS game recompiled as DSiWare, the GBA is an actual emulator (the virtual console) and we just essentially figured out how to make the emulator load different roms.
