Let's be real here - storing your console games on a hard drive has shit to do with "backing them up." More like "keep playing after you trade them in to GameStop."

OK, yeah, they also load and play faster. But whatever your objective, sister site Lifehacker found a new hack that allows you to rig a hard drive to your Wii - even if it has the 4.0 System Menu installed (previous hacks called for an icky downgrade to get around that.) Just a warning, this requires hardware in addition to the hard drive, a suite of mod software, and the know how to use it. And also the willingness to muck around in a Wii and risk melting its graphics card, if a boldfaced "public service warning" is to be believed. The process is lengthy, so be prepared to kill an afternoon. But it is doable.

Umm.....yeah, we knew this for quite a while now. Get with the times Kotaku. Also look at this tutorial they posted

Kotaku wants Nintendo to fail I got banned a couple days saying that they shouldn't post piracy methods just like that and there's a risk you can kill your machine if not done properly, then a couple days later gizmodo had around 4 posts about Nintendo making them look bad:

-one was about Wiimote vs the Natal Project or mainly a wii bashing
-another one about how Iwata doesn't want to be seen with an iphone even if he pulled one out of his pocket.
-One about how Xbox360 won the E3 event and how the race to the top is over.

Of course had links to the wii softmod all over the place they can, on the sides and on the links and the top.

I posted a comment asking what was with all the Nintendo hate that day, they just said Nintendo doesn't care about gaming and then I got banned.

Of course we are forgetting these are just 20 year olds struggling to life also, so they want free stuff and free games to take to their house, and Microsoft is big Santa and these kids love it.

And they call themselves journalists. And least the corrupt journalists get escorts sent to their rooms, these kids masturbate to King Of Fighters figurines.

By they way, to them, there's no such thing as Xbox360 backup method. And It's off limits posting things like that.

WOW. They're basically encouraging piracy, as if people wanted to play theyre own backups they would look it up themselves. now they're just getting everyone to do it. Soon there will be a bunch of noobs who know nothing hanging around and asking "mi bakups dnt work can u hlp me cuz i dnt know how the wii works thnks!" because of these people.

quite obviously kotaku has no idea about how you go about really pirating games with the hard drive, it's called going into the local video shop and renting a game shove on the drive and continue.

Oh FFS, this almost reads like a sensationalist Fox news piece. Next thing you know they'll be telling us that using rechargable batteries will make our Wiimotes explode and kill our unborn babies.

And FYI - I STILL OWN MY ORIGINAL GAMES (and fuck GameStop, chintzy bastards...)

EDIT: lawl at groudyogre's pic

I thought I was the only one to noticed that. Kotaku hates Nintendo. They only post articles that make them look bad. Or will hurt them selling systems. I was banned too once for the same reason!

I embarassingly used this guide... haha.

I was told by a friend to use this before my DriveKey and replacement DVD drive came in the mail. It looked harmless and I was somewhat familiar with the components of the guide. However, after doing just the slightest bit of research on the subject, I definitely feel that I acted in haste. I usually never do that when dealing with the modification of my electronics! Oh well...

I have been out of the Wii scene for quiiite some time. I installed a WiiKey when they first came out and was happy with it for a long time. It's fun getting back into it, but you can't just jump right in without doing your homework! I am pretty sure my problem is the result of my DVD drive, though.
