Gaming windows 7 gray screen of death?

Something weird has been happening with my Acer Aspire 5739g lately... every once in a while the mouse cursor starts to lag, then the entire goes a solid gray and sound either cuts out or becomes a buzzing sound.

Anyone know what could be causing this? I've updated all my drivers, and now I'm running without Aero, and I've run both Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, neither of which found anything.

Is anyone else having this problem with 7 or an Acer? I think it's either a failing hard drive or failing graphics card... but the mouse lag has me leaning towards a failing hard drive
