Wiimotes with opaque and transparent A button?

I personally have two white, one of which has transparent A button, while the other one has opaque A button. Were there some silent revisions or were they bundled with certain console editions? Is there any difference between them other than visual? One is newer, the other one is older perhaps?

The opaque one I have came in white Wiimote box with Wii U logo on it, while the other one I've got with my secondhand Wii console. I used to have opaque red one as well, and yesterday I found there's a opaque blue one.

Another thing: my white Wiimote that has opaque A button has a really nice grainy texture on the back, like you find with limited edition wiimotes (Mario, Luigi, etc.).

It must have been a revision; mine has transparent 'A' buttons. I got it back when boot2 vulnerability was still a thing. I also have some classic controllers from the same era that have transparent 'b' and 'a' buttons, but opaque 'y' and 'x' buttons.

I see. Though I can't say that it's the same for classic controllers, I haven't seen fully opaque ones so far.

Funny thing about classic controller is that it's the only one with lowercase letters for buttons, I think. It's the only controller that isn't "screaming" at us. ^^

As far as I know, none of the official ones came with an opaque A button.

Well, at least Mario themed ones come with opaque A buttons, so I guess they can possibly exist. And I could swear that my white Wiimote looks and feels legit. If it's a copy, then it's pretty awesome copy, better than original.

I'll take some photos when I get home.

And, if they really exist, how many wiimotes I need to get to have them all...

I have both the opaque and the transparent A button white Wii Remote Plus. I’m pretty sure the opaque version is a late revision since I bought it new in stores shortly after the Switch came out, where the transparent one of course was used through the entire Wii lifespan and into the early Wii U lifespan. I could be wrong but I’m guessing the change was made because it was cheaper to just make non-clear plastic for all the Wii Remotes since Nintendo was already using the opaque buttons for the Mario special edition controllers.

Also this might just be me but I love the texture of the battery cover on the revision. It just feels so nice.

Same here. Made me use Wiimote without silicone sleeve now that it isn't all that slippery.

wow. idk why i find this post. all i did was search on the net about different wiimote/ nunchuck revisions, because i bought a used wiimote and nunchuck, and out of curiosity, didn't knew of the opaque A version XD (the one i bought is transparent too, and is the white one). of course i get an original one, because we can find a bunch of knock offs on aliexpress, but people say is not so good (buttons feel mushy) and all. and i only buy (again) a wii mote/ nunchuck for 2 reasons:

1: i have one original (rev 003, same as the one i buyed now) complete with a nunchuck, and a separate motion plus. saddly, they are in another state, and I can't go there to look for it for now =(

2: retroachievments announced that cheevos for gamecube (and possibly wii, if not on launch, at least in the follow months) for the next months (on dolphin emulator)

Although I can play several wii games using common controls, or using my DS4 controller including movements, gyro, etc., some games (Metroid Prime Trilogy, for example) are waaaaay better to play with the Wiimote, so... XD
