Hardware wii alternative controler

ok im not sure if anyone saw this but i was watching this clip on you tube and i saw an alternate form of the wii controller, it looks like the snes controller but with 2 analogs, could someone check this out and tell me if its real

That's the classic controller, an official Nintendo product that is sold seperately. It's intended for games on the virtual console or Gamecube games.

It's available to pre-order anywhere you can find a Wii.

Consequently I don't believe it's possible to play SMG with anything but the wiimote. Many games will be like this. Zelda is another example. The classic controller will be totally useless. This is why it's not bundled with the system.

Especially that you can play the classic games with a GameCube remote, I see no point for the Classic Controller either.

Gamespot seems to think that the classic controller may be used with GameCube games. I'm still not sure if it uses one of the GC joystick ports though.

you can use the classic controller with everything available from the virtual console (eg. nes/famicom, snes/super famicom, n64, genesis/megadrive and turbographx games). you can not use the classic controller with gamecube games.

the classic controller plugs into the wii remote just like the nunchuk attachment.

I can't find my source right now, but one of the nintendo reps said specifically it WONT work on gamecube games. You can use a gamecube controller on virtual console games, but not the other way around.

If you don't want to use the Wiimote then why would you want a Wii in the first place? The Wiimote is the best thing about it! Seriously, the controller is amazing, you'll think so too when you pick it up for the first time.

as far as i know:

gamecube controller ONLY works with gamecube games

'classic' controller ONLY works with virtual console games OR Wii games with the boxes bearing the 'classic' controller icon

games using the wand/chuck will NOT be playable with gamecube or 'classic' controller

Nope. It is confirmed that Gamecube controllers work with Wii games too (not all, obviously). Metal Slug Anthology gives you the option of using it as a controller. I don't believe it was confirmed whether or not Gamecube controllers work with Virtual Console games, though there is no reason why it couldn't. Though they possibly not allow Virtual Console games to be played with a Gamecube controller to get you to buy the classic controller for games that can't be played with the Wiimote. Unlikely though.
