It's disappointing that Xbox One defies itself with the "all-in-one" due to being unable to have backwards compatibility with 360 and/or OX games. It's not like it used the expensive CEL thing like Sony had on PS3.
The "all in one" aspect which Microsoft advertise is for the fact that it can do more than just video gaming. It can watch Bluray movie, watch TV show, listen to Xbox music, has HDMI input for DVR. etc. Hence "One device for all entertainment need".

If anything, Wii U is the only one in 8th gen that doesn't expand beyond video gaming.

X360 uses Xenon chip, which is custom made PPC chip with Microsoft being the only customer. When you have only one customer for a custom chip the average production cost is high. Microsoft had to resort keeping the chip in-order-execution (as opposed to out-of-order-execution) to keep chip cost down. Nintendo suffered the same fate with Gekko, Broadway, and Espresso, being the only customer that orders Power 7 based CPU.

When I see this topic's title I imagine that the next console generation will be even worse than it is already.

Xbox One:
- Cannot save media files on HDD it has to be on the cloud.

PS4:
- Cannot play mp3 files.
- Cannot save files to the HDD like you could on PS3.

Wii U:
- Allows to play Wii games (great) but no GameCube compatibility or port to connect the NGC controller.

These consoles are just becoming so restrictive. :-/
Firstly, MP3 support is being worked on for PS4, as well as DLNA Support. It's expected to be added via a firmware update in the nearby future.

Secondly, the XBox 360's CPU was based on the PS3's PPE - the heart of CELL - both processors are expensive. If you think adding $100 on-top of the already high price of the two Next Gens is reasonable - you go on ahead and complain. Sony did just that with the PS3 and unfortunately it didn't work out in their favor. Not only that, both the PS3 and the XBox 360 are still on the market and are going to stay on it for the next few years. If you want to play PS3/360 games, get a PS3/360 - that's exactly the reason why both Microsoft and Sony prepared budget revisions of those systems.

Thirdly, there's absolutely no reason as to why the Wii U should be backwards-compatible with the Gamecube - the Gamecube's 12 years old at this point, two generations back. The two latest Wii revisions aren't compatible with it, why would the Wii U be?

As for storing multimedia on the HDD's, it is indeed a bummer. Here's for hoping that the feature will be implemented in the future or will be available for external storage devices once those are supported.

When Wii U was announced, Nintendo promised that some GC games would be available as VC for upsetting Nintendo fan. I have yet to see it happened.

If they do then they have to take into consideration making it somewhat affordable (£5-£7) because NGC games themselves cost £15 or more.

Twilight Princess ranges about £35 and beyond. Of course TP on VC would never cost that much.

Obviously if they're going to support such old titles, they'll do that over VC - it's both more approachable for the End User and additionally it's a way to sell their old games all over again. Let's face it - the average user isn't going to go on an EBay hunt to find some Gamecube oldies, they'll just download them as long as the price is right. If you have a stack of Gamecube games to play, chances are that you also have a system that plays them - either a Gamecube or a Wii.

That's because the Virtual Console is utter shit compared to the Wii's and that's just sad lol :D Gee, they're really fulfilling that promise!

Wii U can be used to browse the internet, miiverse and watch videos in youtube/netflix in full hd. And the touch screen gamepad makes it easy to use these features.

Of course the Xbox One and PS4 can do lots of more stuff, but it's unfair saying Wii U doesn't expand beyond video gaming.

That's true.

Unlike the Wii U, both PS4 and Xbox One are trying to be sub-par PC media/gaming rigs which they shouldn't and focus on what's most important: GAMES.

Umm, mostly the features are a continuum from the PS3/360?

Ok, the XBOne has a bit more to add to the previous gen in terms of media things, but why would they leave the media features out from current/next generation consoles? The PS3 for example was the single, best updated bluray player at the time. Why shouldn't the PS4 and XBOne continue the trend and add something more?

ps. In their presentation before release, Sony did focus on just that. Games. I don't see how you missed that.
