Hacking what were the advantages to OTP-less?

i found out about a9lh just a tad later then everyone else, but i forgot to ask before it was removed but now i remembered.

so as the title says, what advantage did otp less actually grant over normal a9lh?

i never did nor plan otp less on any of the consoles ive hacked. but i figured if it was in the guide it must have added some sort of advantage. i dont think pialect would add it just because.

You only had to do one downgrade (9.2).i think that's it.

Essentially because it was a lot quicker an a speedier process. Although many wouldn't recommend it with the brick risk due to the strange problem that happens causing bricks.

It could also be argued as "noob friendly" because you only needed to downgrade once. But the unknown cause of bricks made it too risky

Speed wasn't the only advantage. In theory it was expected to be safer because 2.1 has a tendency to brick N3DS consoles if the screen is closed.

It just wasn't safer, and decided that a higher yet preventable brick chance caused by user error was preferable to a far far lower random chance.

@Aurora Wright or @Plailect (one of them, don't remember which) said it would be re-added if they ever figured out why it caused bricks. They never did.

it meant not having to downgrade which while that meant no possibility of bricking because you closed the lid on new 3ds it meant that random unexplained bricks would happen to some people and again nobody knows why it happened and happens (sorry if i got some of that wrong im just telling you how it was explained to me)

I'm not sure if this is an OTPless thing, but my OTPless n3DS XL can boot without an SD card, while my brother's girlfriend's OTP'ed n3DS just powers off (a bit handy in case I'd ever want to go incognito, and a bit of a mental safeguard in case anything went wrong with the SD).

(for the record, I installed OTPless before the brick reports started coming in... I've been too lazy to ditch menuhax for the longest time, so the ability to get CFW on sysNAND without downgrading from 9.0.0-20U felt like a blessing)

I literally installed A9LH on mine within days of OTPless being released, and it's been running 6.3.1 until just a few weeks ago, so I doubt that's the case. Not to mention I never even bothered with that guide until I got the other n3DS (my personal one came with 9.0.0-20U, while the other one had 11.1.0-34U out of the box and needed a DSiWare downgrade, so hers was modded much later than mine).

Nope, no arm9loaderhax.bin in my CTRNAND root, and no /luma/ folder in my CTRNAND's /rw/ folder. This isn't Luma running when the microSD is removed.

Otpless from what I remember was a experiment.It worked for hardmodders that tested it at first and claimed it to be safer than ctr transferring at the time due to everyone's fear of closing the 3ds lid.However it was exclusive to the new 3ds and caused Radom bricks after installations in rare cases due to the otpless file having some sort of issue.
