I have been reading information on why the PS Vita(1000) won't charge with regular usb power bricks and portable power banks. Apparently the USB cable is a proprietary one with changed pinouts that only get power when connected to the original power supply brick the Vita came with. Apparently you can fix this if you use a small adapter like this to convert the pinouts to the correct ones. I don't have one, so I can't test if it works.

Regardless, I have a huge 30000 mAh power bank with three USB ports. Port one supplies 5V/1A, port two supplies 5V/2.1A and port three supplies 5V/3.1A. For reference, the official charger supplies 5V/1.5A. So I tried for trying's sake all three USB ports of my power bank to see if the Vita can be charged:

Port 1: Fail
Port 2: Fail
Port 3: Success

I was surprised by this because that doesn't make any sense to me. First this negates the claim that you need an adapter to convert pinouts, but at the same time it supports the claim. Why the hell won't the Vita charge with the 1A and 2.1A USB port, but charges with the overkill 3.1A port when the official charger only supplies 1.5A? Can anybody make sense of this? And will my Vita blow up when charged with the 3.1A port?

I don't have the original charger so I use a 2.1A charger and it works. Probably because its plugged into the wall outlet. Maybe your 2.1A port is actually a 2.0A port. Anyways, where the hell did you get a 3.1A charger!

That's weird. Well even if my 2.1A port is a 2.0A port, it should charge the Vita as the minimum Ampere the Vita accepts is 1.5A. This is the power bank I have. Yes, it's a massive brick.

Vita accepts 1.5A? it didn't work with any of my 1.5A or 2.0A chargers that were plugged into the wall, it only worked with the 2.1A charger.

The official charger that comes with the Vita is 1.5A. See, that's why I don't get it. The official charger charges the Vita with 1.5A but other chargers may not. Btw, do you have the OLED Vita or the Slim?

Do you have a source on that? Not that I doubt you or anything, but my Vita charges on any USB adapter I use, even the USB port on my Surface Book's charger brick which is...I think 5V at 1A. It's an OLED Vita, using an official USB cable.

Well i mean if power source is strong, it can charge vita with the system on, you can tell cause you see the lightning bolt in the battery. But if is weak, you have to shut it down to charge properly. I plug it to my ps4, the lightning bolt appears, except it keep getting that annoying error message of "DEVICE NOT SUPPORTED" on ps4, but i have this USB charge station with a fan, my ps4 plug into power it. The vita has no bolt when using the hub station, so have to turn off. Not evn wii u has bolt in it, many stuff don't have bolt, but power supplies like Wall Adaptor do. Some systems aren't strong enough to charge it while is on. :P

My kiosk Vita and normal Vita can be charged with a generic cable and generic charging cube, but it takes a bit longer and the light does not turn orange for some reason. That information only applies to the proprietary Portable Power bank the Vita has, as mine refuses to charge with anything but the official charger.

Yeeeeeeeah a few reddit posts doesn't really = a good a source. Actually looking into it just now, the Vita's pinout isn't different at all from standard USB (and now that I really think about it, if it was it wouldn't work with any USB adapter).

This sounds more like a bad batch of USB cables.
Then how do you explain the existence of this and that?

Both of those simply change a data cable (which doesn't pull more than 500ma from a PCs USB port) into a "charging" cable which pulls more amperage from a USB port. Has absolutely nothing to do with "proprietary USB pinouts" or anything like that, they just push more current from the USB port.

Then how do explain the fact that my Vita can be charged by my 3.1A port but not the 2.1A and 1.0A port?
