Hi. WiiU can play vWii games from USB.

Was anyone successful in launching games from SD card? (in WBFS format for example).

Tried USB Loader GX, Wii flow... no luck. It can detect the game but it returns a black screen.

Thanks.

Yes, in fact that's how I used to load games! Can you try using sysCheck and post it here?

Yes. Thank you.
I think it has to do with Wii flow unable to load from SD card, since everything else works (Loading from USB, USB Loader GX).
Wii flow displays games and options and everything. When I launch the game (New Super Mario Wii) : the Wiimote gets disconnected, and the screen remains black.
Here is a thread with a similar problem:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/vwii-wiiflow-black-screen-upon-loading-game.383062/

And here are my Syscheck results. Thank you @deckerboii anyway if it doesn't work it's no big deal I can use USB.

I don't think there's anything wrong with your cIOS. Try using USB

I am able to launch Wii games stored on my SD card using WiiFlow by setting "Saves NAND Emulation" to "OFF" in "NAND Emulation Settings". Of course, this means that game save files will be stored in real NAND. I believe the problem is WiiFlow_Lite issue #196 (see Fledge68's github repo). The leading theory for the root cause of the problem is that the cIOS prevents WiiFlow from remounting the SD card to load the game if it has mounted the SD card for the EmuNAND.

I've heard wiiflow can do it so I'm curious about your issue. I have to ask though.. Why do you want to boot wii games via sd? I mean its so simple with a decent external usb drive with usbloader. So why put extra stress the storage device that has your important softmod stuff?

Is your USB Loader GX up to date? To play Wii games from SD, you need the latest version from here: https://github.com/wiidev/usbloadergx/releases
The SourceForge page is no longer maintained.

If WiiFlow doesn't work either, try another SD card. It's possible yours just isn't compatible with cIOS for some reason.

It's not that it isn't compatible with certain drives... The problem is people dont test their stuff via h2testw or something to make sure their stuff is legit before they start jumping in to homebrew stuff... I used to think a 256 gig sandisk thumb drive wasn't compatible with wii u till I found out I had a fake and switched to a wd external hd. It was funny cause I originally used a generic 128 gig green and black flash drive that worked fine on wii and wii u and is what i used to transfer my vwii stuff to the fake sandisk flash and legit external wd drive. You need to be extremely careful with portable storage you buy over 128 gig on big multiseller sites like amazon.

Thank you very much. I'll test USB Loader GX, and also test Wii flow while setting "Saves NAND Emulation" to "OFF".
The reason I want to use SD card just because I have a lot of space on SD card that wasn't used for years and I wanted to fill it with some Wii games.

Thanks!

Why not just skip all this and do the injection instead? I mean, you do you but jumping through the hoops just to get a subpar performance is just meh to me.

Injecting every wii and gc game seems so inconvenient imo xD Not to mention you only have 250 wii u slots no? And you're still just installing to a usb drive that u use for the wii u so whats the difference If your vwii drive is identical to what you use for the wii u formated drive?

Inconvenient? Not really, I have eveything on just one drive these days, well apart from Nes & Snes roms those are still on the SD. As for the limited slots, what kind of lunatic would fill up all of those? Actually I know some folks that did that, but they're nuts so whatever.

I filled my 1tb HDD to the brim and I'm no where near the 300 slots limit. I kept what games I enjoy and never have the need to have all of them. Guess I'm not a hoarder.

I mean you are still booting games from a wii u formated usb drive. Whats the difference if your vwii drive is identical to what you use for the wii u formated drive? I agree that sd isnt ideal if thats what you mean. its just a bit of an inconvience to swap out drives, but it seems better than having to inject everything xD

Because back in the days. Wii & GC Iso needs to be on separated drive, then you have to hide it from the console otherwise it won't work with the other drive with Wii U games. It's a pain in the (my) ass, when I want to add more iso to it and what not. I'm not even gonna go into loadiine stuff.

Like I said, with injection it made life a bit easier for me to have most thing on just 1 drive. That's my point.

Ah, I had no idea gc and wii games used to have to be separated. By the time I got into softmoding my regular wii they both went on the same fat32 drive and when I upgraded to wii u it was as easy as just plugging that same drive into the wii u after I set up the vwii. You still need a seperate drive for the vwii stuff. But I mean the Y cable fits both drives so its just a matter of plugging the right one in before you power on. I was just wondering if you got some kind of performance boost by injecting to the wii u formated drive instead of just using a seperate drive. I guess one beneft for injecting is gamepad support on the vwii stuff.

I believe this is what you’re looking for.

For best compatibility with GC and Wii games running from the SD cart and pretty much every SD card to be used on a Nintendo device make sure to format your SD card to FAT32 with 32 Cluster, not exFAT, not FAT32 with “auto” cluster.

Thank you everyone. I wasn't aware that the awesome USB Loader GX added support for SD card last month.
I downloaded the latest version of USBLoader GX and it works flawlessly! out of the box!
