What are the settings on the router? The Wii only supports 802.11b and 802.11g. It has troubles with some things like Bluetooth Coexistence Preemptive mode. Also, you should disable Frame Burst if you're using a lot of wireless clients at once. The connection settings need to pass the connection test before other applications can use them.
for sure, the guys at the company updated the software on their own, do you think they changed something, how can I check?

1256 has some issues (with some users only, not everyone), where network is hanging afer some time.
You start downloading, it works, then suddenly it stops. you need to re-initialize the network to get it to work again.
I'll revert back to fix that until I know why it crash.

if you need to download lot of covers at once, please use 1252 instead (before SSL support)

My internet issue is different though, in this new house the phone line is really crappy and the internet is very bad in addition, the company said so too, we paid for 3 MB and while our supscription is still going we had to lower it down to 2MB (and lose our extra money) because the building can't handle more than 2MB, the other issue was the security system as it was changed in a way the Wii and DS couldn't read it but I got it fixed and now they all work fine so at least that's over, anyway from my testing yesterday downloading with USBLGX worked fine with no issues but I haven't tested it today so I can't tell, if I had issues I'll revert back to 1255 otherwise I'll just stick with 1256 anyway, thank you.

it's used for parental control.
if you have a password set, and the loader is locked, temporarily unlocking it put you in godmode.
on next reboot, it's locked again.
godmode is temporary if you have a password, else it's always ON (or unused if you don't lock the loader).

Ok, good to know, I don't use parental control though.
Yesterday, I got a new class 10 SD card. I changed my covers/banners location from USB to SD. Tried to download more covers, the bug is still present for me (r1256-57). This bug has not misteriously dissappeared like the bug with Nintendont xD.

Some requests/ideas, super low priority:
- add a "==Wii ===" line at the top of the loader settings, this way all the options fall into a category.
- set "-1 = default" to the following options: widescreen factor, font scale, clock size factor. Right now, using -1 on those options set them to the lowest value (0.01)
- maybe it is a good idea to rename "Nand saves emulation" to "Wii saves emulation". Now that we have neek2o working, some users could think that option is channels related.

Some more doubts:
- as regards the new option "show favourite on banner", what's the difference between the value "^^" and "two lines"? Both seem to be the same.
- for Devolution, what's the option "D buttons" for?

I thought renaming the EmuNAND save to : EmuNAND Disc
to go with "emuNAND channel", to make comparison whether it's a Wii disc or a Wii channel.
"EmuNAND save" is used only with discs, not with channels on real NAND, so naming it "disc" makes sense to me. it's affecting only the games launched from disc. (or wbfs, but disc-based games).

EmuNAND channel is only for EmuNAND (not NAND channels).

There's no option to save NAND channels to EmuNAND path.

I still want to remove EmuNAND Channel "partial", only OFF/ON/NEEK is usable.

^^ is
Code:
 2 4
1 3 5

two line is
Code:
12
345

that's just my lack of imagination to find proper name, I put / \ / \ (like if you follow it from left to right)
I'm open to any better name choice !

D button = Direct button.
it means A = A, B = B
instead of A = Y, B= A, etc. (rotated buttons is the default mode)

@Cyan A while back (like over a year ago) I had 2 requests for you. One was to be able to customize the order of the category lists and the other was to have both the rotating disc and the banner animation. To refresh your memory I quoted that conversation in the spoiler tag below:

I said it wasn't possible to put VC at the top, because I don't think editing the xml is a good idea. (like you said, it would have to switch the category order in the xml but also edit all game's settings to fix the new ID).
What I thought was to re-order the category listing after loading it.
display the menu -> load the xml's ID=>Name -> order the found names alphabetically based on the Name -> display the list on the screen. The category names will retains their existing ID and you don't need to edit game's settings nor edit the file manually, but you can't position what you want at the top.
It's possible, but require too much time to add this feature to let the user reposition the order from the loader.
If you want to re-order, do it manually in the xml right after using the delete xml + "import category" feature.

If I do any change to this menu that will be only a simple alphabetical order after xml is loaded. no reorder inside the xml.

I like your idea to put the Disc art on the Game information window.
for users using only the banner animation, they don't see the disc covers anywhere even if they are downloaded when updating the cover's pictures.
I don't know where it would be good to put it. probably a button to press to see it.

Well I have an idea for both that may work. First the game categories:

Basically I imported the categories from wiitdb using the feature inside USb Loader GX. Then I manually edited the XML file and put the categories in the order that I wanted them (Gamecube, TriForce Arcade, Wiiware, Virtual Console, and then every other category in alphabetical order). But only the categories part in the beginning. I deleted everything else below. Then I saved the xml and copied it to my USB Loader GX folder and ran the import categories feature again. This time it kept my categories in the order I wanted them and automatically tied those categories to each game. Much easier then editing the whole xml individually for each game. I attached it to this post for those who want to use it. Just add it to your USB Loader GX folder and run the import categories feature. Note that the "CUSTOM" category on the top is actually for the Triforce Arcade games. For some reason wiitdb gives them that category. Just do what I did and rename it to "TriForce Arcade" or something inside USB Loader GX after running the import categories if you want.

Anyway, I did notice that I don't think I have every single category that wiitdb has. I think this because I only have 100 categories (from ID 00 to ID 99) whereas wiitdb also used letters in their ID (like ID A8). Plus while looking through the wiitdb xml file I saw categories that I didn't have in my xml list. I don't know if USB Loader GX can handle more than 100 categories or not but if it can and you can have your import categories feature import them all then I will manually organize them all again and post it again for people to use if they wanted to do the same thing.

Secondly the Wii Disc and Banner:

What if after you click on the game cover it shows the rotating disc spinning and then the game banner just like it would do if you opened the disc channel without a disc in and then put one in (except use the disc art instead of the generic Wii disc). Just to clarify watch this video (it was the best one I could find):

I don't know how difficult that would be to add but I think that is the perfect spot for that and it eliminates your problem of having 2 start buttons like you had mentioned in your previous attempts.

That's it for now. Sorry for my lengthy post. Hope you find this helpful.

Switching to USBLoaderGX from Wiiflow.
Is there a way to rename some games that are displayed in GX? Like in wiiflow they use 'custom_titles.ini'

Also is there an FTP server in GX ?

Thanks, Mike

there's no ftp server, sorry.
you can rename games, but it's not using a .ini or .txt file
you need to enable title cache option in the settings>features menu
then you need to edit the game's title using the loader.

1. settings > GUI > game window : rotation disc, or "banner on banner layout".
2. go to list layout if you selected "banner on banner layout only"
3. select a game, click on the title at the top of the windows to edit the title.
4. restart the loader

the title cache file will be used before loading wiitdb or checking disc's internal titles.

I noted that the titlecache is not always reliable (game title sometime is reset to wiitdb, for example I always have to rename Okami...)
sorry that it's not very stable.

another option is to rename the title directly in the wiitdb.xml file
1. settings>update>wiitdb
2. setting>features>use wiitdb titles
3. edit the xml file on your SD card manually

sorry, I don't know what to reply.
I don't have definitive idea or position on the "dual game window" (disc and banner). I don't know how I would code that, but visually I don't know yet.

sorting categories, same issue like the message you quoted.
if the user already have games set to categories, the order will be messed and you will have to re-set each games one by one.
your solution is good only if you didn't set categories to game yet. (and even, importing may apply categories automatically as they are found, if you don't unset/reset/edit each games then the category attached to that game may be different after you moved the categories from the xml)
I didn't test all this.
Maybe it works (if you say so).

I don't know how to code that yet. I didn't thought about it at all.
I may add your suggestion to my blog, as it's not listed yet.

No worries. I just wanted to know your thoughts on my ideas. I know nothing about programming or what you must go through to update USB Loader GX. So I try to give back the only way I know how by giving suggestions and possible solutions to make those suggestions a reality. Such as my manually editing categories xml. Which seems to be working well for me by the way. I just hope that some of the things that I may say or do actually help you out in some way in making USB Loader GX better.

This reminds me, I noticed USB Loader GX always reads the channels titles instead of using the wiitdb file for some reason, even so I always set it to use wiitdb, is there a way to at least edit titles for injected channels and what not?

realchannel info seems to be read first (at launch) before wiitdb is loaded and kept after it.
as a result, it also have a wrong default settings for parental control, game level, etc. which is not matching the real value from wiitdb.

this is a very old bug, I haven't had time to check it out yet.

sorry, I'm testing more WiiU than Wii lately.

Are you talking about testing USB Loader GX on the Wii U's vWii? Because now that my Wii is practically "perfect" I'm now moving on to doing the same thing on my Wii U's vWii so I'd be willing to do some tests for you and report any bugs I find if you are interested.

no, I'm talking about doing wiiU hacks/exploit/testing loadiine/testing WUPinstaller/NNU/etc.
I read a lot about wiiu and 3DS hack progress everyday after work, so it's taking all my free time

I would gladly accept beta testers for USBGX, but currently I didn't work on it for the past month.
And time zone is always an issue, when I release something that I need to be tested, I have to wait a day to see if it's working or not, get reports etc.
time zone USA/France are not easy to work together.

Ah ok. Yeah, I haven't gotten into that yet. From what little reading I have done it seems like their isn't really much that a "normal" user like myself can do with it yet. So I'll just wait for now.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
