You have nothing to worry about if you're not pirating anything. They'll search your shit (which I admit is pretty bad),find nothing and leave you alone.
That kind of attitude is sickening. Governments should be scared of their people, not the other way around.

You missed the entire point.

If you're not pirating or downloading anything through bit torrent they will not search you. If for some stupid reason they do search you they will find nothing and you'll get off free. It's sucks for someone to go through your private shit but if they don't find anything they can slap charges on you for.....I don't see the problem.

Most of the people complaining about this are pirates with suffering from a false sense of entitlement and unwarranted self importance.

Also, LOL UNITED KINGDOM

Good thing I live in the good ol' U.S of A.

Hang on a second - why the hell should the government even be looking through my stuff in the first place? Who the hell are they to tell me what I can and can't do with my internet connection? I was under the impression we (the electorate) controlled the government, not the other way round?

No, they're people who are concerned that music companies can have your access to the internet, something which people use for business, pleasure, socialising, managing their finances, pretty much everything, taken from you based simply on an accusation with no legal trial. They're also people who are on shared internet conenctions who might lose net access, something which the European Union counts as a human right, because of what OTHER PEOPLE download.

We've already seen how there is clearly scope for wrongful accusation, not too long ago a 65 year old woman was hit with a lawsuit from a company that said she'd been illegally downloading gigs of gay porn films. If that suit was aimed at a middle aged married man he may well have just paid the fine rather than go through an embarrasing court case, even if he hadn't downloaded anything.

QUOTEAlso, LOL UNITED KINGDOM

Yeah, the US would never bring in intrusive laws like the patriot act or give excessive power to organisations like the RIAA or the MPAA.

I lol'd, because it's so true. To be honest I'd much rather live in the UK than America. But if I had a choice between living in Russian, China or America (only). I would pick Russia and China first and avoid even entering America. Who want's to give up finger prints and details of where you are staying at the airport? It's just wrong on 1000's of levels.

guess you don't understand what this bill means.

QUOTE
This isn’t about file sharing or fighting for your right to download dodgy MP3s. It’s about much more than that.

It’s about stopping a law that could bring libel-style censorship to UK ISPs, forcing them to block the next YouTube on copyright owners’ say-so - with no penalties for organisations making misguided or malicious accusations. It’s not hard to imagine politically awkward sites such as Wikileaks ending up on the blocklist too.

It’s about stopping a law that would make cafes and libraries, and anywhere that offers a free Wi-Fi service including your school or college, responsible for their users’ activities, seen in many cases now, which would bring an abrupt end to open Wi-Fi

Did you seriously just say that? You are ten types of stupid. Russia? Okay maybe but China? I hope you don't like Google,Youtube,Twitter,Freedom of Speech,Facebook,Myspace,Flickr and a shit load of other websites. We're not even gonna go into the huge list of words that can't be searched on the internet.

Use the China Channel addon for Firefox and tell me if you still would choose China over The United States.

Just a quick one to say this is but a rephrasing of "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear"-> I am guessing you have curtains, internal doors, encryption rather than authentication and I will leave it to others to link up all the cases where things have gone wrong, stuff used beyond the scope/remit of the law in question, the law or proxies for it have acted in a corrupt manner and things have plainly been misunderstood.

Well my ISP uses a limit on newsgroups of 10gb at the lowest cost package and unlimited for the most expanded package
for downloading (website, torrent, etc.) they only state a fair use policy. (so no numbers are shown)

I must say I like this idea and don't get me wrong on this (because I don't like it for the general population) but I like this law cause I HOPE their own kids download the world and disconnect their own parents who came up with this brilliant idea. Then we will see how they like their own law. Because they have not thought about that part I will bet you on that!

(Note: over here they even thinking about placing a tax on the use of internet how wrong is that? lol paying money for using internet on top of the monthly payment to have internet access. so each and everyone (even those who don't download) will suffer from the people that do download and then they can give the money they get from the tax to the companies that suffer piracy... right they will put it in their own pockets.)

yoi honestly think that this applies to MP's? look at the expenses scandal al those MP's who got caught for expenses on phantom mortages and cleaning of moats etc, if that was you or I we would have been thrown in jail for fraud, MP's just pay it back or in some case they moan and bitch and dont pay it back, this law doesn't apply to them, they will have some un-censored interent.

It means if you download something big which is not encrypted,if a complaint is made against you, rights holders who own the film games etc, can apply fora court order to get your details, 3 strike rules meaning 3 letters telling you to stop in an (educational) form, after that suspension or disconnection followed by a court case maybe.

also government can block a location on the internet such as wikileaks or anywhere they think a site is infringing copyright.

This means an end to open wifi as we know it and a host of all other problems too

What a classic! just another reason to hate cack Britain Does the maths and currency conversions and its clear the UK is one of the most
expensive places to buy new games.

My life as a gamer has been long, There have been many reasons to pirate games. Were it not for piracy i
would never of been able to experience such 90s delights chrono trigger , front mission, secret of mana 2, (to name only 3)
as these games were never released in the UK during the 90s. The populace was considered at the time (to stupid)
hate2.gif
to enjoy text heavy RPGS and strategy games
and they were never released here as the cost was not viable.

a big massive thanks to the pirates of the 90s who allowed me to play all the classics with an emulator, I would of been more than happy
to pay full price for these games
yaywii.gif

FUCK THE UK GOVERNMENT
FUCK BIG FAT GORDON BROWNOSE :-)

i will hand pirated DVDs out on the streets for free if i have too. I will not be stopped

The internet is my world, its where ive enjoyed being since 1993 come to escape the rainy grey streets of my country
to get away from all the snobs and self loving creeps. If they are gonna spoil this? whats the point in living?
Why not just blow myself up??? its not like id miss living in the YOU fukin KAY with a big fat snob running the show

(apologies for language)

Can i just say one more thing instead of shouting and swearing

AOL was one of the first Internet service providers in UK to make a stand against piracy by throttling torrents.
All UK AOL user simply changed to another ISP that doesnt slow down torrents.
The company was destroyed, it and the few remaining customers were sold to the Carphone Warehouse for roughly 36 pence.

There is no longer AOL in the UK. Even if you call them. The call handler just quotes AOL (tech support)
but is sitting in the carphone warehouse in India. I asked once, when i thought id dialed the wrong phone number
and this was explained to me.
While this does not change our current situation. It does show that service providers who try to force the control of its paying customers just disappear

To the Americans who thinks our current situation is funny.
Its only a matter of time until all commonwealth countries follow suite

think of it this way
If i get caught breaking the piracy bill in the Uk ill probably lose my internet
If i get caught breaking the piracy bill in America ill probably do 30 days in jail
I appeal from the bottom of my heart. American cousins please try to help us if you can!

Really? REALLY?

The UK is most likely doing this so that they would be able to import more electronics such as games, movies, etc and make more money off it making their economy better. Trust me, it is very possible to go through with the bill, but it just won't stand. Once they realize that they are losing money, and not making profit on the extra imports the bill will be canceled.

since the government wants to share the costs with all ISP's at 25%, some news articles estimate a £15M cost for this so expect our broadband to increase in price.

I did read another article on the register about how long to impliment the changes, and well this article says monitoring wont start until next year 2011, and enforcement spring 2012
Source

hopefully by then alot of the bollocks has been cut out of this bill and hopefully a new government too

Update
it gets even worse in the states, MPAA RIAA want spyware installed on every computer and will delete infringing material, complete censorship of the net
Source

I Think this will never happen, alas I thought the digital bill would not go through either so who knows

lib dems lords clement jones put through 120A amendment which was worse than clause 17, they did a quick U turn on this bill as many people objected to it, just to get quick votes in,so lib dems can forget my vote, and talk talk are just riding off the back of this for good publicity.
