Trading pokemon between CIA and eshop versions

Hey, I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to trade between a legit copy (eshop) of Pokemon Yellow on one 3DS to Pokemon Red (cia) on a hacked 3DS? I've just tried and it just stalls when trying to connect to the trade room. After a few seconds pkm Yellow will just cancel out while the other one gets stuck when selecting trade room. It's almost like it thinks they are still connected because when I turn the 3DS of on Red, then I get the communication error, even if I've already come of the screen. I did notice that my cia copy is a "region: world" version. Not sure if that has any effect since I've read theirs no such thing as that and each language was released as it's own copy, however trying to find a cia of just English is proving difficult.

Any help would be great.
