If I decide to hardmod my v1 unpatched switch myself, what is the recommended solution these days, I don't really want to build the modchip myself. I read somewhere else to look for the HWFly v5 specifically, but that post was a little old. Its hard to tell what the most updated info is.

if is a V1 unpatched, you don't need any Modchip, you need a way to inject payloads, they could be:
  • A computer.
  • A phone
  • A dedicated injector.
  • A internal injector.
Also you need a Jig or some way to press the "Real" Home button which is on the right rail of the console. (no needed if you activate AutoRCM once you boot payload at least one time.

a good guide to you start to understand all is:

I actually have an RCM injector already and a jig. I was just thinking of doing the hardmod for the fun of doing it. It is kindof pointless, isnt it?

yeah, the hard mods are fun, you can put a reel switch, a push button or similiar inside a Joy-con, here on gbatemp there is a thread dedicated to it.

Still have a black screen after updating. What should I do from here?
I boot kekate v6.0.4 from tegra. My OFW (sysnand) boots normal, but not atmostphere EMUMMC.
It shows the EMUMMC logo for a second, then screen goes black.

Modchip wise you can use a trinket m0, or a hwfly core v4/v5 if you can find them stay away from RP2040 Hwfly v6 chip.

Do you have any cheats or sysmodules enabled?
Not that I know. I started with what's available at sdsetup and haven't added anything except tinwoo. Cheats I haven't even looked into.

As I see it there are few things to try but I do not see how they would solve the issue. Try with a new SD card, is only parts of it got corrupted.

I actually have an RCM injector already and a jig. I was just thinking of doing the hardmod for the fun of doing it. It is kindof pointless, isnt it?
If you're itching to mod a Switch console, you could just sell your unpatched v1 for a good amount to someone who doesn't want to mess with modchips, and then with the money, buy an OLED to mod it. Make sure you get enough to buy the OLED and the modchip.

So I have a OFW 17.0.0 Switch. And a 16.0,3 (I believe, somewhere in the 16.0.3 range) NAND backup. I have a launch Switch so I can RCM. Can I just boot into Hekate and recover/load that NAND backup, so that I'm on 16.0.X and create an emuNAND, so that my girlfriend can play games again? She is tired of waiting for the 17.0.0 sigpatches, hehe. Thanks.

Patience is a skill that can save you from a lot of trouble and embarrassment. It can help you avoid making hasty decisions, buying things you don’t need, or eating too much junk food. Patience can also make you more attractive, as you won’t be seen as needy, desperate, or clingy.

Instant gratification, on the other hand, is a trap that can lead you to misery and regret. It can make you waste your time, money, and energy on things that don’t matter, or that harm you in the long run. Instant gratification can also make you less attractive, as you will be seen as greedy, impulsive, or immature.

Therefore, it is better to practice patience in your life. Patience can help you to achieve your goals, improve your health, and strengthen your relationships. Patience can also make you happier and more satisfied, as you will enjoy the rewards of your hard work and perseverance.
