It's not magical. Here's what I've changed so far:
- Specify 256 sectors per cache page when calling fatMount
- Modified libfat to use MEM2 memory only
- Read/write only 32 sectors at a time for USB2 to avoid crashing (undocumented bug)
- Read from DVD in 32768 byte chunks

you should submit your MEM2 patches to sourceforge (libfat svn) as they could benefit to other projects as well

Great App tueidj, I'm loving not having to format to WBFS to dump at a decent speed

also here's an icon I made for the Homebrew Channel if anyone wants it:

They're only useful in this situation because the USB IOS modules require read and write buffers to be in MEM2. In other situations this might be undesirable since MEM2 is slower than MEM1. I'm also not sure if it interferes with libogc's MEM2 malloc patch, since I don't malloc enough to use up all of MEM1.

Uh, is there a way to change the output filename before or after ripping? If I rip more than one game at a time, they just overwrite each other. It's a pain in the ass to rip a game, unplug the USB, plug it into my computer, change the name, and reconnect it to the Wii for every game.

How about the next version makes a directory named after the disc ID and puts the .bin files in there?

That, or you could use the same root directory for all of the files and just make them be GameID.bin

Either one would be great

"libfat thing or something"

We need the exact error ...not "something"

Luckily there's only one libfat error message: "Error initializing libfat. Does (device) contain a FAT Partition?"

In other words your flash drive doesn't seem to be formatted as FAT or FAT32. If it's formatted as NTFS or WBFS you can't use it for making disc images.

The most I have right now is an SD card (2GB). Will I be able to dump by backing it up into my comp in between? (Example, dumping 1.5 GBs, the program stops, I transfer into my comp and reinsert my SD, the program dumps the next 1.5, repeat transferring, dump 1.37 GBs...)

I also have a 500 GB HDD accessible, but I'd rather not use it, since I don't own it.

Can somebody help me, I have no idea what I'm doing. I have this thing booted up in the homebrew channel and no matter what options I select, it keeps saying "Error reading sector data" Am I missing something or do I not have the right options set? I'm trying to dump my RB1 disc onto my empty SD card with enough space.

Edit: Nevermind I figured it out. If anybody happens to have the same problem as me, go here.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

  • cearp @ cearp:
@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
