Once again, thanks to snesrev and Lwyx (same genius devs with zelda3), the Nintendo Switch recieves a new port. The beloved Super Metroid.

Source: https://github.com/snesrev/sm

This time is way easier (contrary to zelda3) to get the game running on our modded consoles, the only thing needed is providing our own ROM (I dumped my ROM from Super Metroid Wii virtual console SNES wad) and rename it to sm.smc, after this, copy the ROM to "sm" folder provided in attachment. Launch the nro trough homebrew menu with full ram access.

The game runs great but its an early release, so expect bugs.
I hope, eventually, the port can be enhanced with redux settings and/or widescreen mods.

That's so cool, thanks for the upload. Tho I won't install it for now, I'm waiting for some redux and widescreen mods (and maybe one that will not make the morphball roll when stationary !!!!)
Also waiting for a launcher kinda like Zelda 3 launcher, that would be great
Can't wait to see what's coming for Super Metroid

Couldn't you just run the snes rom?? i mean whats the point
  • native 16:9 support
  • graphics/audio enhancements
  • tweaks : new difficulty level, gameplay changes, mods, etc.
  • more robust graphic engine with no slow down (even if Super Metroid is already great, there IS slowdown with some bosses)
  • etc.

(the fact you don't see any advantage does not mean everybody should have the same thinking about it :grog:)

Decompilation projects are great and amazing. Why do it ? because we can, of course !

Haven't you seen what has been done with Mario 64 pc port ? Analog controls, 60 fps (and more), mods, textures and model swaps that was pretty hard to do before.
Well, it's basically the same here. Now it's a « PC game » while before it was limited by the SNES capabilities, hence the slowdowns even on emulators despite the fact they run on computers that should run such an old game perfectly (except obviously some workarounds at the emulator level, but that's super hard to do and still limited compared to the potential of this)

Accordingly to the provided instructions (that you should read) it must be SMC.
I know it says smc, I am well versed in the English language. I asked because the most common format nowadays is sfc, so it would make sense that it would also support it. Good thing all that's needed is a simple file extension change and no dumb conversion.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
