Dang, so close. I was trying to repurpose the old Nintendo WiFi USB Connector with this but it has an older RT2570 chipset in it. It appears to work and I can see the SSID broadcasting but 3DS can't connect to it. Oh well, figured it was worth a shot to at least try this useless device with it lol.

Thank you so Much :)

I have a few questions ;)
1. Is it possible to assign "NZ@McD1" to certain MACs? when the rest stays at "attwifi" (Mixed SSID List)
(For now i used winscp to change the "macList_activelist" in the folder "Mac-Lists" to my own MAClist with mixed SSID, maybe have a "macList_activecustom" file for that ;) )

That was very easy with SpillPass v1.6, to make your own list with mixed SSID:
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx NZ@McD1
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx KPN
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx NZ@McD1
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx NZ@McD1
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx NZ@McD1
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx attwifi
etc...

2. Whats the difference between the folder "Mac-Lists" and "Mac-Lists-ro" in /etc/hostapd/

Thanks

Sorry for the late reply; it was fourth of July weekend. :)

1. That feature still exists, but you can't do it through the webgui. Jack decided that NZ@McD1 is really only useful for nintendozones, and you won't want to have some MACs in your rotation not be nintendozones if you're looking for one. So the method to have mixed SSIDs is the one that you described, manually changing /etc/hostapd/Mac-Lists/macList_activelist.

2. Mac-Lists is the folder with the real stuff being used. The -ro means "read only". Files stay in the folder for the user to copy back to Mac-Lists in case they screw up and need a fresh config.

Not at the moment DjoeN, at least not via the GUI.

The one ending in -ro is a read only file on the disk you can use to fix your template file if you screw it up :) Thats all.

-edit-

I see logg already answered :) Nevermind. I should probably read down the whole way before posting .

Working great, was a breeze to setup.

Are there any known wireless usb dongles that support adjustable txpower? The RTL ones don't seem to.
I want to reduce the wifi power to make the ATT hotspot area as small as possible.

This was answered in IRC, probably you're the one who asked the question there, but I'll quote it here just in case someone needs it.

<Jack> yes
<Jack> you would have to modify the script
<Jack> the script generates a new config file for each pass using a bunch fo different files
<Jack> somewhere in there you need to add the transmit strength argument
<Jack> its doable if the firmware of the wifi card allows it
<Jack> i experimented with it and had it working

This might be a feature in an eventual 2.2 release; Jack mentioned it towards the end of 2.1 coming out.

Thanks logg, I know how to modify the TX power.
What I don't know is what adapters support it.

The RTL based ones (I.e all the ones on the spill pass hardware page) don't - the driver doesn't support it, one can execute the needed command line, iwconfig even reports the change, but it doesn't actually change the powe - it is locked at 100% power, so in addition to modifying for a 2.2 release we would need to identify adapters that really work....

Example reference http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-wireless/msg133220.html

---edit---
Just remembered I had a TPLink TL-WN721N on a windows machine, so I stole it to try with spillpass, Linux loads an atheros ath9k_htc driver. By casual observance the txpower can be adjusted succesully. I am charging my android tablet so I can do proper site survey to check.

Spillpass seems to be rotating macs ok, will keep an eye on it and report back if I see any issues.

For reference this is the FW ath9k_htc 1-1.4:1.0: ath9k_htc: FW Version: 1.3

--edit--
Nope the aetheros doesn't seem to change power either.

I've been trying to use Spillpass by sharing my laptops internet connection to it with an ethernet cable.
I tried following this guide but I can't get it to work.
I was hoping someone more knowledgeable than me could assist me.

edit:
I somehow managed to get it to work, although I'm not entirely sure what I did.

Got a question about using this. I finally managed to get Retropie installed on my Pi2 and I also want to use this one. Am I only allowed to use one .img at a time or is there a way to use both without losing the time spent setting up Retropie?

We are live people!

Just wanted to say awesome work with SpillPassPi v2, setup with no problems on my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B.
I met another SpillPass user within my first 20 streetpasses. :yaynds:

I'm going to VLAN the Pi off from the rest of my home network and try set it up near a window, so random people walking past the house might get a streetpass or two.
