Yeah latest rumors say that GAME will sell the switch for £200 which seems extremely reasonable considering how late nintendo are to the race.

my main worry is whether or not the wii u selling price will drop this xmas. since its being sold brand new for around £150-£220

I hope that it is about 299-349.99 dollars to be honest with you. I know I hate expensive but why not? Why ? Because if it is cheaper then it can be down fallen like a Wii U and a few 3rd party. No, thanks.

If it is expensive like a PS4/Xbox one then it would be a good things for 3rd party support and can be the best ever in 2017, finally!

Your logic is flawed beyond comprehension. Making a system expensive won't just magically draw in 3rd Party support, nor will it magically make it sell better.

I can't comment on what Nintendo will do or have done. I have no idea. I'm no insider. I'm no retailer.
With that out of the way...

All I can say is that the Canadian dollar is very similar to the Australian dollar. I would expect $399 - $499 Canadian/Australian on release.

A price that's lower than their competitors carries with it a perception of 'budget' or 'lesser hardware' in the eyes of the public (who will be looking at the Switch for the first time next year). It's all silly marketing tricks, but perceptions count for a lot - particularly after the Wii U and Wii. I would think that Nintendo don't want to be thought of as a distant third choice today, or that 'toy' console (rightly or wrongly). Like the 3DS, I think it will be priced at a level I am not comfortable with at first (I never pay Early Adopter taxes so that isn't hard to do, in all honesty...). The high-ish price will be equivalent or higher than their competitor offerings at first. The home/portable gimmick will also work its magic on the public. Both the price and the home/portable gimmick will signal something 'special' to many, especially in comparison to their competitors. Anyway, after some time, Nintendo will have enough sales data to gauge the popularity (or obscurity) of the Switch & 'massage' the price and promotions accordingly.

I am pretty certain we'll see pricing like this, just based on how I think Nintendo is marketing the thing. Actual cost of manufacture is lower than their competitors for sure. I think that in future Nintendo will have more wiggle room for promotions than their competitors because of their lower cost of manufacture. Particularly if they made a home-only Switch that isn't portable (after some years).

a bundled game, cheaper than competition price, and solid launch titles will hopefully allow the switch to gain a lot of support early on. A lot of folk may wait until zelda is released though, so that's worrisome for their initial numbers.

More than 200 us dollars would be a serious overprice. I hope they learned after the 3ds pricing fiasco
It's going to be anywhere from 70% - 90% as powerful as the first-gen XB1, and what's lost in power is made up for in the manufacturing cost of the portable screen. If it was going to be just a slightly less fuzzy 3DS I'd agree with you, but with the true hybrid console they're going for, your pricing expectations are completely unrealistic.

But I see what he's saying. If it costs expensive, the implication would be that there is a lot of power packed into the Switch and therefore would be capable of easily running 3rd party titles that also run on the PS4 or Xbone. If the system gets all the great 3rd party titles then people will come to the system. if the system gets a large install base, the 3rd parties will stick around.

Conversely, if its a cheap system, it'll be a good bet that its also an underpowered system, and unless it somehow gets a surge of purchases like the Wii did when it was first released, 3rd party developers aren't going to be very interested in making scaled back or even entirely different entries specifically for the one system.

I mean if the Switch is announced for $200 USD, that would be more troubling to me than exciting that the price is so low.

The Canadian Toys'R'Us site had the Switch listed at CAD $330, which is $250, before the product page got pulled.
$250 is not much compared to similar products.

But at that price what kind of hardware is possible.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also to add to insult, it turns out there is no polaris in ps4, only two gpu installed on board mich like crossfire using a very old card. In this sense, switch coukd be packing more features and efficiency, as well as other surprises.
Why don't I just check it out.

Nvidia's Shield Tablet has a 1920x1200 screen and supports 4K video out, and it's $200 at the moment. The Switch is from the same manufacturer (more or less), is rumored to have 720p resolution and HD video out, so that leaves room in the budget for improvements in other fields such as storage, RAM, etc. You can get decent specs for that money.
