So I've been out of the 3ds scene for a bit, especially after my 3ds hard bricked after updating from 2.1 to 4.5 via game cart.

Anyways, I had a few questions.

1. I just got a O3DS on firmware 6.1, with that in consideration, what should I do next if I want to play Super Mario Maker (I have the physical cart, but would like to play a backed up version) and gbc injections?

2. Can I safely update to the latest emunand while still playing games that require versions higher than 4.5 (the version I use for GW normally) I saw that it supports 11.2 but just wanted to make sure that was accurate.

3. As mentioned above, I generally use 4.5 for GW fun. I have heard it's much more convenient to be on 9.2. How true is this and what's different between using this and 4.X?

If I have other questions, I'll ask here. Any info is very appreciated :)

we dont use emunand anymore, as the current mainstream way of cfw is something called arm9loaderhax, which installs cfw to your 3ds arm9 proccessor.
If your interested in setting it up, follow pialects guide

Don't encourage a Gateway user to use SysNAND. Even on A9LH, if you use Gateway, you better use it on an EmuNAND.

That said, follow https://3ds.guide/ to get A9LH setup. There's a thread here somewhere about how to load GW on A9LH using Luma3DS's chainloader by holding a certain button when powering on.

Well imo its his choice. He can either:

A) let his gw card go to waste or donate it/sell it, because if he has a big enough SD for gw, he has a big enough SD to install cias

B)set up Luma with gw support, keep the gw card

I'd reccomend the former, as option b makes updating a bit more complicated, but not by too much.
Plus, its a bit harder to back up saves.

Or C) Do the same as option B, but only use Gateway with an EmuNAND.

Gateway does not protect A9LH and using it directly on SysNAND puts you at risk of losing A9LH (O3DS) or bricking (N3DS).

@squall14716 and @Sketchy1: I realized my FW version is in 11.x. I asked the seller to clarify, so he said it's 11.1 to be exact. I am fine with ditching my GW if there is a CFW for that specific version (Which I believe there is) I just want to make sure the cfw on 3ds.guide for 11.1 is safe. Should I use it? Thanks!

Using Gateway actually has its benefit as well. You can just drag and drop the .3ds rom into the SD and start playing it. Not to mention the cheat function that's way more polished on it :P

Cheat function is better, only because of the menu though, but cheats are still possible on cfw. but getting the .3ds and .CIA are practically the same.

You how to download and copy the .3ds to the gateway SD, which is essentially the same with cfw because of ciangel and freeshop, which download and install at the same time, meaning both take practically the same amount of time.

Here's the idea,
With GATEWAY, I can add a new ROM in anytime and play it instantly.
With CFW, I have to wait for the CIA to get installed (at a 1MB/s write speed, N3DS write speed) it takes an hour to install Pokemon Sun, which is a pain in the ass.

p/s download speed is severely limited by N3DS write speed. I have a 30Mbps connection but N3DS only utilizes 8Mbps of it.

tl;dr
On a 30Mbps connection (from downloading rom>play, 3GB Pokemon Sun, Class 10 SD card)
Gateway

1. Download (13:40min)
2. Transfer to SD (5:07min)
3. Play

CFW+download from computer
1. Download (13:40min)
2. Transfer to SD (5:07min)
3. Install (51:20min)
4. Play

CFW+download from freeshop
1. Download+install (51:20min)
2. Play

Gateway 18:47 min
CFW 70:07 min
CFW+freeshop 51:20 min

Still CFW is a free alternative so whoever have not buy the Gateway and do not mind waiting for the install is better to use the budget to buy a big SD card+CFW+40$ leftover :P

Them numbers though. I like that.
But dont you also have to patch your game so you won't get banned if people go online with the same header?

i gotta say fuck captain falcon, because he's hot (no homo), marry samus, because she seems like good wife (or as BigOnYa says, wifey) material, and kill wario, because he can't die, so killing him won't really kill him

My state has put a heavy tax on vape juice, taxing any juice with nicotine by the weight/oz. So to get around the bs, my local vape store only sells 0 nicotine vape juices, then they also sell straight nicotine in tiny bottles, and you mix it yourself to your 0% juice, lol
