Or sonic hacking contest. :)

There is that SAGE thing Sonic retro has a lot, Sonic amature games expo, you get to try rom hacks, and custom made fan games based off sonic, and vote for your favorites, is really cool, like school science fair or talent show :P

There stuff like that Sonic 2 HD, and sonic VR which is like Metal gear solid VR missions but with sonic, I even found a sonic game with a bunch of mega man x music in it, and the Jepordy theme :D

Some very creative and impressive stuff there. There should be stuff like hacking contest here.

You could allow both SMW (Lunar Magic) and SMM submissions with the SMW theme - many sprites from SMM have been backported to SMW already.

Looking forward to this possibly happening, I'm no master level designer but it's worth a shot.
Maybe someone could replace the Mario graphics with the GBAtemp mascot?

Do not want to sound rude, but smm has limited tools that everybody can use, in a contest it is just you and your imagination, no one will have advantage. In the other hand, yeah lunar magic is the superior editing tool here, but in a contest guys with no experience would be in a disadvantage if they compete with a guy that knows how to do asm and use the custom graphics and music.

Why not a super mario maker contest instead?
The thing about SMW is that you have so much more freedom to create what you want. Granted its a little more advanced but from what i've seen there are some kickass rom hacks out there. Look at smwcentral.net to see what I mean.

Look at my reply above. I know lunar magic is superior, but it won't work for a contest UNLESS you put some rules there not allowing for asm hacks and other advanced stuff to be done, so this way it could be more fair to all.

AND NO COURSES BEING MADE TO EXPLOIT GLITCHES OR SKILLS NEEDING TAS EMULATORS TO BEAT.
Always hated playing mario maker with that stuff, how the heck am i supposed to know what to do? No NORMAL mario game make levels that i need to "Jump through walls, land on a P switch with a frame perfect jump multiple times and then kick a shell off the wall and bounce on it, catch a spring in mid air and bounce while doing a spin jump all during a low 20 second time frame window." :glare:

IS NOT NINJA MARIO MAKER PEOPLE :ninja:

Perhaps not as much a contest, but a level collab for a ROM hack ala the VLDC collabs released?

And about the ASM, perhaps patch a few commonly agreed objects/sprites/tilesets/etc and limit them to those?

A collab rom hack would be cool, this way everyone could participate.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.
