It is more that this is the 10th of so fad IM client that I have been made aware of. Its client and protocol are proprietary, technically it has private servers but self hosting is a bit thin on the ground and that is what most people mean when they say private. It is not supported on that many platforms, though I guess most of the major ones are more or less covered. Trying to get it to speak outside its protocol is usually a bunch of hacks and annoyances, more so than most, and feature complete is something it can not be called.

Maybe I am overly cynical and not giving things a chance. I don't think I am though.
