Is it possible to encrypt a 3ds title on a PC using a particular console's movable.sed, so (assuming the ticket is installed) you can simply copy that title onto the SD card and it will run without needing to do a .cia install?

i mean it must be technically possible, but yeah i don't think anyone has made anything to do that...

That's actually a really interesting idea!

A program that could encrypt a game given a movable.sed would be awesome, but there's probably some technical reason that can't happen, otherwise I think it'd be done by now...

I just checked 3dbrew.
Looks like the KeyX for SD encryption is set by bootrom so we can't find any normalkeys for offline encryption/decryption unless the bootrom is dumped.

When, hopefully, the 3DS bootrom gets dumped CFW will be able to ignore console specific signature for installs, or at least they will be universally decryptable on a PC. The maker of TikSweep makes a ticket installer that installs every ticket available but when using a CIA the ticket in already included, so if you had every ticket you would be using eShop for fileless installs. If you still need a CIA for the first install I don't see much point.

And bootrom is dumped.

Is the point of 0-key movable.sed for a way to play without CFW? A way to back up your games and restoring them without needing to reinstall? Or for sharing game folders once tickets are installed? I never could quite figure that one out.

Also, another confusion. How would one install the tickets to their system without a CFW?

No, that's completely unrelated.
A way to back up your games and restoring them without needing to reinstall?
You can already do that somewhat.
Or for sharing game folders once tickets are installed?
Ding ding ding. Two consoles with the same movable.sed key can use the same game folder from on the SD card.
Now that we have the bootroms, the information needed to convert a .cia to an installed SD card folder is known.

Ok, so being able to play without CFW is just a side-effect.
How can I already backup my games and restore them without doing a nand backup?

Sure. So I'd assume there is a site dedicated to 0-key'd games? Or is it so that you can swap SD cards with a friend IRL and play their games?

No, being able to play without CFW would not be possible with this.
You just need to copy the Nintendo 3DS folder off the SD card. If you want to copy individual games, copy only the subfolders that match the title ID.

I think OP suggested making a site like that, but I'm not sure. Swapping SD cards IRL is definitely possible, but it requires that you both have the same movable.sed key, which means at least one of you is going to have to format the console.

I guess I misread "With this 0-key file, your console will boot without CFW.". What did he mean by this?

If I use 0-key movable.sed and so do you, are our movable.seds the same?

This won't brick your console if you edit sysnand movable.sed and you're not using a9lh or b9s.

The movable.sed key would be the same, which is the revlevant part. There's other stuff in movable.sed which you shouldn't tamper with.
If we're both using the same key, then we can exchange SD card content (assuming tickets are installed).

Yeah, the whole point of me asking was for 2 people using 0-key.
Thanks for the info!
I wonder. How do you guys use 0-key? Backing up games more easily? Or sharing with people?

I haven't used it personally, so I can't say.
My own idea for this trick was to copy the existing movable.sed key (not a 0-key) from my old 3DS to a new one, if I ever got one. That way I could easily move all my content across.

Is no part of the movable.sed console specific? Or you just mean the key inside of it?

I just mean the key.
There's nothing special about a 0-key, compared to any other movable.sed key. It's just a convenient common denominator for a large number of people to agree upon for sharing SD content.
If you're doing it personally, you might as well reuse one of the keys already present on one console.

Last one. Where in the movable.sed is the key?

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm

i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
