Hacking R4i SDHC ("An error has occured...)

Hi,I am getting the error "An error has occurred. Press and hold the POWER Button to turn the system off. Please refer to the Operations Manual for details." on the 3ds and DSi when ever I try to use the card. I need help trying to get this flash card.
I've seen videos showing you to update the firmware, but I honestly have no idea on how to udpate it, because I am not able to get into any R4 menu, and honestly i'm not sure if i'm putting the file correctly in the SD Card.
Unfortunately, the formatting of the SD card does not work either.

"An error has occurred." usually means: "Flashcart blocked by whitelist check!"

Possible solutions:

• Update flashcart firmware if any update exists (≠ kernel files on the micro-SD) on any DS system currently starting this flashcart → DS-(Lite|Phat), DSi or 2|3DS with custom firmware.
• Install custom firmware on your console(s) to disable the whitelist check

• Start the firmware updater (if any) with another method (other flashcart, Download Play)
• Replace the flashcart with a new one (e.g. R4i Gold 3DS Plus)

Edit:
Don't update the DSi further. The 1.4.5 update will only block more flashcarts and brings nothing positive (unless there are legal licenses on said DSi which allow redownloading purchased DSiWare).
